Having set foot to Africa for the first time, I decide to undertake a budget safari with Masai Trails East Africa. Affordable but the best of safari to Masai Mara, Kenya.

I was in Nairobi for a short weekend visit and was looking to visit Nairobi National Park and the Elephant Orphanage. I came across Robert's contact information on TripAdvisor and contacted him a week before my arrival. Even with the short notice, Robert planned a day for us with pickup and drop off at our hotel. He connected us with an amazing driver (Julus) who was very friendly and knowledgeable. All in all, we had an incredible day touring the park and Nairobi. Thank you Robert for organizing our drive and safari! Highly recommended!

We went on safari at the beginning of November.

After reading multiple reviews regarding safari tours from Nairobi and deciding we wanted to spend our money locally rather than give it to the travel agents, I decided to email the two companies offering budget safaris from Nairobi. One of these was Maasai Trails East Africa Safaris. Rose was able to answer my queries in as few emails as possible (as opposed to the other company I contacted who could not seem to give me a straight answer). Once we arrived in Nairobi we telephoned Rose to arrange a meeting to discuss our plans. We found Rose both friendly and knowledgeable and was keen to help us in anyway he could. We decided to do two excursions with Maasai Trails East Africa Safari: a 5 day safari to Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru and a Nairobi day trip.

For the safari we were picked up from the hotel Boulevard which was booked by Rose at at 7am. Our driver James, a very friendly fellow briefed us on what we were to expect over the next few days then we set off on our trip to the Mara National reserve.

Whilst my wife and I haven’t been on any other safari tours to compare but all in all we were very impressed. Our guide James was extremely focused on his job i.e. finding the animals. He must have eagle eyes because his spotting skills were uncanny. He also knew so much about their habit and was always happy to answer questions. He really did put a lot of effort into scouting for animals. We managed to see four of the big five.

Please also make sure you tip. We went on the advice that it was 1,000 Kenyan Shillings per person on the tour, per day.

We would highly recommend Maasai Trails East Africa Safari. I am sure Rose would offer you a much better deal than your holiday rep, plus you wouldn’t be squashed into a bus like a sardine!

I would highly recommend Maasai Trails East Africa for our safari in November. We arranged our wk long holiday online & contacted many travel agents & tour operators here (Arab Emirates) & in Kenya. I had many questions & queries & the only one who replied promptly to all of them was Robert from Maasai Trails East Africa. His prices also were the most competitive. One of their driver/guides, Abdhalla, picked us up from Nairobi airport & was with us for 4 days in all, in Amboseli & Tsavo East. Abhalla is a very good, safe driver & at no time did we feel apprehensive on the road even though the way others were driving was hair-raising at times, especially on the Nairobi-Mombasa road. Abdhalla was always punctual, friendly & polite & really did a great job as driver and guide.
I will recommend Maasai Trails East Africa and would definitely use them once again.

My girlfriend and I got in touch with Robert from Maasai Trails when we came to Nairobi for a 5 day break. During our stay in Nairobi Robert and his crew took us on a tour of Amboseli and Nairobi National Park, visits to the elephant orphanage and giraffe centre, organised someone to take us into the Kibera slums, and took us everywhere we wanted to go during our stay. Even suggesting places for dinner and ferrying us back and forth. I can highly recommend Robert, he is very friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble. We were on a budget having just come from my brothers wedding in Zanzibar. Robert made our stay in Nairobi fun, exciting, and affordable. If he puts as much effort into his Safaris as he did with us I can assure you of a good time A+
