Upon arrival in the Masai Mara, you will be met at the airstrip and transferred to your camp, game viewing en route.

Lunch at the camp.

Located in a secluded forest just inside the boundary of the Masai Mara Reserve is the1904 Safari Camp. The 1904 Safari Camp lets you enjoy the heart of wild Africa in the style of travelers in the Edwardian Era: a time that celebrated superb attention to detail, understated luxury, and Romance as a destination. We feel that the 1904 Safari Camp is simply the finest way to experience Kenya’s wilderness areas.

While staying true to its origins as a classic East African camp, the 1904 Safari Camp provides the superb service of a fine boutique hotel - your laundry done every day by your personal valet, your shoes brushed and cleaned every night, your private tent cleaned and beds made every morning while you are out on your game drives, and many spontaneous kindnesses. Guests often comment that getting to know the camp’s friendly and professional staff was one of the unexpected pleasures of their safari.

Each of our roomy vintage-style tents is insect-proof, and has large windows hung with heavy curtains easily opened to enjoy the pure air of Africa, or closed for complete privacy. A curtained doorway leads from your sleeping area to a well-lighted dressing room, furnished with campaign washbasin and chair, mirrors, and a vintage steamer trunk wardrobe for your clothes. Two adjoining curtained compartments contain an old-fashioned bucket shower in one section, and a modern flush loo in the other. Our specialty is bringing all the personal touches of a fine hotel to the heart of wild Africa.

Afternoon game drive in the Masai Mara Game Reserve

Dinner and overnight Don Young’s 1904 Safari Camp

Day 03, 04 and 05

Three more nights in the heart of the Masai Mara. We will have great food, amazing tented accommodations, and wonderful staff. You can be as busy as you want to be - going on drives to photograph animals and birds, taking walks with the Maasai guards, visiting a Maasai village, etc. - just relax in the calm and healing beauty of this forested camp.

The camp has both solar power and a back-up generator, so you can charge all your media batteries. Cell phone network is adequate in the area.

A typical day on safari may be similar to this:

0600HRS wake-up (with Tea, Espresso, Cappuccino, Juice served at your bedside)

0630HRS drives with our guide team (this is an especially wildlife-rich part of the Mara, far away from the main tourism areas)

0900HRS Breakfast in camp or out on a picnic

1300HRS Lunch

1615HRS Afternoon Tea

1700HRS Departure for drives or walks

1900HRS Hot showers in your private tent

2000HRS Dinner by candlelight

During your drives in our 4x4 vehicles you can expect to see the great predators – lion, leopard & cheetah, and spotted hyena - on the hunt. Your five nights in the Mara will give you plenty of time to study the rhythm of nature among the great herds of antelope, zebra, and gazelles, as well as enjoy watching the families of elephants who often share the campsite with us.

Day 06

After breakfast in camp, you will enjoy a final game drive to the airstrip for your morning flight to Nairobi. The flight takes off at 1015 hrs

Once you arrive back in Nairobi, you will be met and transferred to The Karen Blixen Coffee Garden where dayrooms are reserved for you.

Lunch and dinner on own arrangements

The afternoon is at leisure to do some shopping, repack or just relax at the hotel.

This evening, you will be transferred to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your international departure flight
