Marangu Route also known as Coca-Cola or the Tourist Route it is the most popular route on mountain. It is the only route that offers sleeping huts along the trek that serve beverages. It is also the easiest route on the mountain as it’s ascend is gradual and steady giving room for unproblematic trekking for the most of the route. Nevertheless, due to its repute as an easy route, most inexperienced and unprepared climbers often select it and only around 40% of them make it to the summit.

The hike start at the Marangu Gate on the south-east area of the mountain, it takes a minimum of five days, although it’s recommended that you take a minimum of 6 days. The route is mainly crowded because descend is done on the same route. The route is also relatively cheaper to hike since its shorter as well as its close proximity to Moshi the gateway town. This route is not very desirable to climbers who want to enjoy the scenery as they ascend the mountain. It confines hikers to one side of the mountain consequently, limiting the variety. Although it has the best rainforest trail with some spectacular views of the Mawenzi and Uhuru peaks. If you don’t like trekking over steeper routes, sleeping in tents, want to spend less and don’t mind the crowds then Marangu route is an ideal option.
