Best Tanzanian skies

Written on: February 06, 2014   |   I visited in December 2012 I visited Tarangire in Dec 2012, in conjunction with Lake Manyara. I much preferred Tarangire. The baobabs were worth it alone and the skies were lovely as we were driving back to camp. No idea why the clouds seemed better here, but they did. The two things I was not keen on was the increased humidity (lower elevation and further east than Ngorongoro and Serengeti) and the tsetse flies. The latter were a real downer for one of my friends, who spent the duration of one drive swatting at pesky flies.
Would return for the lions, baobabs, elephants and termite mounds.

Yes there are plenty of other animals in Tarangire but the display put on by the elephants was incredible - having dirt baths, the matriarch guarding the large group as they crossed the roads, making sure we weren't a problem, watching babies suckle, watching them scratch themselves on the trees, ripping the bark off trees, young males fighting and babies trying to... read more

Tarangire is a great park, especially in the dry season. The animals congregate around the available watering holes, particularly the elephants. The baobabs make for a stunning backdrop. Lions are also often seen and the termite mounds make for a great vantage point for cheetahs.
In the rainier months, mosquitoes can be problematic. This park also has tsetse flies... read more

2013 was my first safari. I arrived at Kilimanjaro airport where my guide from Simba Safaris Ltd was waiting fro me. After a night in Moivaro lodge the safari started. For me, everything was new and I asked my guide many things on what I can expect.
On our way to the park, I hear what all is possible and what to do during the trip. Just 100 m in Tarangire N.P. I... read more

Tarangire National Park has tales one can't ever forget. This spectacular savanna environment host the largest terrestrial animal "the elephants" (Loxodonta Africana) and dotted with monumental baobabs like no other national park on the Northern Circuit of Tanzania. Recently I had an opportunity to stay at Tarangire Safari Lodge inside the Park of Tarangire. This L... read more

Tarangire National Park is, by far, my favorite park of all that we visited on our August safari.

I found the park to be filled with a diverse selection of wildlife. While the park is known for its elephants, the number of other animals is quite impressive. I particularly enjoyed the leopards and cheetah.

The landscape is just as interesting as the animals,... read more

Tarangire National Park is the current home of the elephants in Eastern Africa region.
You cannot even count and say you saw 200 herd of them while walking down to the river or eating, they are so many.
One thing that I witness in this park is the tsetse flies you must take care of this as they are very strong, best thing is to put a jacket and make sure the driv... read more

The dream scenario from the movie Out of Africa comes to mind when you sit overlooking the beautiful landscape of Tarangire National Park. Baobab trees and elephant are the main sightings in Tarangire.
It is common to see large family groups of elephants in the park and game-viewing in Tarangire is usually very good, with plenty of giraffe, warthog, waterbuck, im... read more

Tarangire NP is about a 3 hour drive from Arusha Tz, the " 'Gateway' to the Serengeti," on a well-paved road. It is a 20 minute flight from Arusha (ARK), or a 45 minute flight from Kilimanjaro (JRO). The park is about the size of Rhode Island.

Tarangire is one of my favorite national parks in the Serengeti area because it is generally not crowded with visitors a... read more

If you are going for a day trip, it is better that you go there very early so that you can have enough time to enjoy the park, and if you are going for overnight you can arrange for guided walk as well as a night game drive.

Animals act differently in different times, it is very good to at least have a 12 hours experience of the park. You can arrive there at aro... read more
