Unique flora and fauna

Written on: April 02, 2015   |   I visited in July 2014 There is no place I love visiting like the Northern reserves. They offer some of the best scenery and wildlife. Seeing the leopard sleeping on a rock with the sunset at the background was the best sunsets I have ever taken in a long while.
The weather in this area makes it a all year round place to visit.

Samburu national reserve is the a representation of nature and wildlife at its primeval best! This park offers a wildlife viewing experience unlike no other. The scenery is exceptional and only gets better with the presence of the breathtaking river and pyramidal-looking hills.

The area is one of the least-explored in Kenya and hence, very little human interfer... read more

Samburu was such a memorable part of our 15 day Kenya/Uganda safari because of its remote location, lack of other tourists, authentic feel due to the proximity of the Samburu tribes, and access to wildlife. We stayed 2 nights, but should have stayed another one or two nights to maximize the experience.

We loved seeing the special animals that do not live in the ... read more

The beautiful and rugged Samburu Game Reserve is one of the protected areas in northern Kenya which is a home to animal species found only on the north of equator. i.e reticulated giraffe, Grevy zebras and Beisy Oryx among others
This Game Reserve is not particularly well-known to many thus not being too crowded

The name Samburu is of Masai origin, a ‘samburr’ is a traditional leather bag the Masai use for carrying honey and milk. This region is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and its red volcanic soil.

Rock outcroppings contrast against the dense woodland vegetation along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River,... read more

The Samburu is set in the semi-desert regions of northern Kenya and is where water yields life.
The Ewaso Nyiro river brings in great numbers of wildlife and some species not found elsewhere in Kenya. What makes this place so amazing is the captivating biodiversity and elephants of Samburu. This is one of the best places to find species endemic to northern Kenya... read more

Samburu National Reserve is located near the Ewaso Ng'iro River in Kenya. There is a wide variety of animals known as "The Samburu special five" which are: Grevy's zebra, ostrich, reticulated giraffe, generuk and beisa oryx.
Let's not forget there are over 350 species of birds here, too. You can also find other animals in the reserve such as the olive baboon, war... read more

As I mentioned in my last review of the trip to Buffalo Springs National Reserve, the Samburu National Reserve is just next to it as they are divided by River Ewaso Nyiro, which means brown water, making these reserves sisters. In Samburu National Reserve my friends and I could not believe all the wonders that were associated with this place. It is the very place w... read more
