The pink lake

Written on: March 16, 2015   |   I visited in February 2015 Lake Nakuru National Park covers 180 sq km and is home to white and black rhinos, lions, warthogs, waterbucks, buffalo, reedbucks and the occasional leopard among other wildlife.

Lake Nakuru National Park Day Trip from Nairobi (Tour Duration: Full Day) 160 Kilometers, 2.5 Hours Away from Nairobi are a good way to see the park if time is short. Along the way you have the chance to stop at a viewpoint and take pictures of the Great Rift Valley below you.

The nearby cliffs offer sightings of baboons, birds of prey and scurrying hyraxes as well as great views of the park.

This is one of Kenya's top 3 National Parks and a must visit while on safari. The park is just over 3 hours from Nairobi city and hence a perfect destination for a day trip.

Upon arrival at the park, we were met by a huge herd of buffaloes. Did you know that the cape buffalo is the most aggressive of the wild animals? Another pleasant surprise was the group of w... read more

It was easy to spot wild animals unlike in most other parks. My most incredible sights were of pink flamingos dotting the shows of Lake Nakuru. The parks hosts four of the Big Five (except for the Elephant). The baboons around the gate are were very welcoming and absolutely comical. It was great to spot warthogs busy going about their daily business. Lions were in ... read more

Lake Nakuru lodge was decent in standard. The views were beyond words - amazing and having a bush dinner provided us with some great photos. The game drives were well planned and we were very fortunate to see a lot of animals, we even got to see the white rhino. The guide told us a lot of information on various animals and he had answers to all our questions and he... read more

Lake Nakuru is an ornithologist’s paradise with over 400 recorded species of birds. Around the lake one can find flamingos, a wide range of waders including avocet, while large rafts of pelicans can also be seen sweeping the water in unison.

There are well marked driving tracks around the lake and all over the park where you can enjoy a self-driven safari in you... read more

The Lake shore is flooding and it has caused the staff to make new roads. The old on shore roads are gone now.
Nakuru is a beautiful place, full of baboons (which we had a ball with), Vervet monkeys, some rhinos (but poaching is an issue), and a few lions.
Got some super images there. And my only leopard shot of the trip! read more
