Awesome Kili trek

Written on: May 27, 2014   |   I visited in December 2013 My husband, brother and I did the trek up Kilimanjaro last December. We had a great time! Kilimanjaro has such diverse ecosystems at every stage of the mountain, so bring many layers of clothes. I was amazed by the number of different trees and plants you will never see anywhere else. Day-to-day climbing was fun with snacks and tasty meals provided in between. The cabins were surprisingly comfortable with mattresses and bunk beds. We had all types of weather, so I was glad I brought waterproof boots and rain gear as well as winter-ready gear for the top. I found it fun visiting with other climbers at meal times. People come from all over the world to climb Kili, so it's great to hear other people's life experiences. The last day was definitely the most intense and exciting. Hitting the Uhuru peak was magical like another world! My heart felt full seeing many people kneel and pray at the top. It's such a great feeling of accomplishment to reach the summit of the world’s tallest free standing mountain and Africa's highest point! I am so thankful for our wonderful guides, cooks and porters that encouraged us every step of the way and made us feel comfortable. I also appreciated learning about them and life in Tanzania. After we descended we had a nice sit-down bbq and beer lunch in Moshi with our tour crew. We raised our glasses and cheered for the summit- everyone was so happy and excited. We also had a chance to do some medical volunteering, see the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and the Island of Zanzibar to make the entire East African experience complete- all amazing options to add to your Kili trip!

I would never tell someone that they shouldn't climb Mt-Kilimanjaro. If you want to make it easy, take 7 days on a route and you will make it to the top with no problem.
I reached Uhuru Peak at 10a.m. using the Machame route on a 7 day trek with 5 of my friends. Here are some pointers that would probably help you plan a trek

The Marangu Route climb is often done in five or six days. The Marangu Route is sometimes called the Coca Cola route because it is an easier, and popular, option of the many routes. You will come across many scenic views, rain forest, semi-desert and the Moundi Crater. read more

Enosa Expeditions provided everything for me, including airport transfers, accommodation (a very nice hotel called Park View Hotel, located in Moshi town), camping facilities and all staff in mountain.

I climb Mount Kilimanjaro through Lemosho route for 7 days and my guide "Benson" made everything to reach the Summit of Mount Kilimanjaro!

A group of 7, all friends, decided over a drink to go & climb Mt Kilimanjaro! So the first challenge was to find the tour operator to suit our needs. After a lot of web browsing we settled on Maasai Wanderings who also were the tour operator for our safari after the Kilimanjaro trek. From the booking, the communication months before our adventure to the final good... read more

Kilimanjaro was one of my best experience in life. While traveling to Tanzania with friends we decided we could not miss Kilimanjaro. We were young and unconscious as we had not prepared for the trip and were not equipped. You can rent equipment on site, but we decided we could do without sticks or head lights! We had a team of cook and carriers. We took the easy r... read more

If you are on an African safari that calls for challenge, then the place to be is Kilimanjaro NP. A real mountaineering experience takes about eight days to the Uhuru peak, which is the highest summit on the continent, but am not so sure whether or not I can make it there!

This was a kind of picnic to stretch out muscles and it turned out to be so great. For tw... read more

A few of us were lucky enough to have the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro in conjunction with an African safari. Due to our schedules, we had to do the climb after our safari, which I thought would be the wiser option, as we'd have time to get over jetlag. However, safaris are tiring events unto themselves and I was pretty tired at the end. We ended up needing an ... read more

The Kilimanjaro National Park’s biggest attraction is, without a doubt, the mountain itself. Most hikers and climbers can’t wait to get to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. They spend their nights carbo-loading, planning routes, packing gear. They hardly sleep for excitement and anticipation.

But there is much more to the park than reaching the top – or summiting. ... read more
