Amboseli - Elephants and Kilimanjaro

Written on: November 18, 2014   |   I visited in July 2014 This is a flat dry area with wetlands from mountain water runoffs. It is a gorgeous area with thousands of wildebeest roaming the plains. The area is reasonably small and easy to navigate with our Land Rover. Elephants and hippos are the main sightings here, along with breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and sunsets. But it is the wetlands that are the most exciting, simply because most of the animals congregate there. So sightings are numerous and plentiful. Also, because of the water area, birds species are plentiful and easy to spot and photograph. The travel times to and from the lodge are not long and the lodge selection is wonderful....from the very reasonable to the expensive.
There is something for every budget.

Amboseli National park, although small, offered amazing interaction with elephants as well as other animals. Morning and afternoon they would come from or go to the water. Had great very close up encounters. The park can be experienced in just a day and a bit. Any longer and you'll be going over the same areas. read more

Crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak, the Amboseli National Parks is one of Kenya's most popular parks. The name "Amboseli" comes from a Maasai word meaning "salty dust", and it is one of the best places in Africa to view large herds of elephants up close. Amboseli is well-known as an elephants park. It's located at the bottom of Mt.Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.

You shall expect to see the peak of Mt.Kilimanjaro very early in the morning if the clouds clears up for you.
It has two major entry gates one from the Namanga border with Kenya and one from the eastern part.
