Day 1 - Lilongwe
Arrive into Lilongwe International airport where clients will be met and assisted to the transfer vehicle. Road transfer from Lilongwe airport to Kumbali Country Lodge on the outskirts of Lilongwe (30mins).
Accommodation at Kumbali Country Lodge in an executive room on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Clients will have the afternoon at leisure to rest and relax after their long international flight.
Day 2 – Satemwa Tea Estate
After breakfast clients will transfer by road to Satemwa Tea Estate in Thyolo in the far south of the country (5h). A packed lunch will be provided.
On the journey from Lilongwe to Thyolo the clients will pass through the small town of Dedza. There will be the option to stop here at the Pottery workshops – there are some lovely items to buy and they have a coffee shop there as well.
Accommodation is at Huntingdon House on the Satemwa Tea Estate, on a full board basis. Satemwa is a well established tea and coffee estate managed and operated by third generation members of the Cathcart Kay family. The house has been tastefully refurbished to offer 5 unusual ensuite luxury rooms / suites including the converted family chapel. Each area of the house has a story of its own from the original children’s nursery to the resident priest’s quarters. Guests are encouraged to share the colorful history of one of Malawi’s oldest homes. Accommodation is at Huntingdon House in a luxury ensuite room on a bed and breakfast basis.
Day 3 – Satemwa Tea Estate
Full day of exploring Satemwa Tea Estate – with options for massages, high tea, tea tasting, walks, mountain biking and squad biking. All activities can be arranged through Satemwa Tea Estate at extra cost.
Day 4 – Zomba Plateau
After breakfast guests will transfer by road from Thyolo to Zomba (3h). Accommodation at Ku Chawe Inn, situated on the rim of Zomba Plateau, in a deluxe room on a half board basis.
Zomba was the capital of Malawi until 1975 and was the seat of parliament until 1994. The town in dominated by Zomba Plateau which is an impressive mountain rising to 1800m. The hotel, Ku Chawe Inn, is located near the top of plateau and has amazing views across the south of the country.
Afternoon of exploring Zomba – walking on the mountain, birding, horse riding (not included in itinerary price). All activities can be arranged through the hotel at extra cost.
Day 5 – Liwonde National Park
Road transfer from Zomba to Liwonde National Park to Mvuu Camp (2h) plus short city tour of Zomba on journey to Liwonde (1 hour). Note - During the green season (Nov to end May) it may be necessary for clients to take a one hour boat transfer up the Shire River to/from Mvuu Camp inside Liwonde National Park.
Accommodation at Mvuu Camp is in ensuite tented chalets, situated on the banks of the Shire River, on a full board and activity basis.
Liwonde National Park is one of Malawi’s premier game parks. It offers some of the most scenic game viewing in beautiful riverine surroundings. There is a wide variety of game – from elephants to sable antelope and warthogs. The park is well known for its prolific bird watching opportunities.
Day 6 - Liwonde National Park
Full day of game viewing activities included in itinerary cost – game drives, nature walks and boating safaris.
Day 7 – Senga Bay, Lake Malawi
After breakfast clients will transfer by road to Senga Bay on the central lakeshore (4h). Packed lunch provided.
Accommodation is at Livingstonia Beach Hotel in an ensuite room on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The hotel is set in beautiful spacious gardens and has its own private beach on the shores of Lake Malawi.
On the road journey from Liwonde NP guests will visit Mua Mission. This is the KuNgoni Centre of Culture and Art and the highly acclaimed Chamare Museum (entry fee included). This fascinating collection of art, history and language gives a clear insight into Malawian culture. There is also an interesting wood carving centre where is it possible to purchase beautiful handmade art.
Day 8 – Vipya Mountains
After breakfast guests will transfer by road to Luwawa Forest Lodge (5h) located in the Vipya Mountains in central Malawi. Packed lunch provided.
The drive affords guests some wonderful views as they climb from the lakeshore up into the Vipya mountains about 1200m above sea level.
Accommodation at the lodge is in simple ensuite chalets, set in landscaped gardens over looking a large dam. Accommodation will be booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Luwawa Forest is made up of conifers and native trees of Malawi. The lodge offers many activities at extra cost including guided walks, canoeing, birding, mountain biking and visiting local villages and schools.
Day 9 – Vipya Mountains

Day 10 – Northern Lakeshore, Lake Malawi
Today guests will continue their journey to Makuzi Beach Lodge on the northern shores of Lake Malawi (4h)
The lodge is situated in a secluded tropical bay which is home to an abundance of birdlife. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
Accommodation is in simple ensuite chalets overlooking the lake on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
Activities available at extra cost include snorkelling, fishing, kayaking, boat trips, visits to local communities, horse riding and scuba diving (Off site).
Day 11-12 – Northern Lakeshore, Lake Malawi
Full days to relax and enjoy Makuzi Beach
Day 13 - Lilongwe
Early morning road transfer from Makuzi Beach to Lilongwe (5h) to connect to international flight.
