Birding Safari In Uganda: Murchison Falls National Park Plus The Crater Lakes

Unveil Uganda’s birders’ paradise! This tour will journey you to the stunning Murchison Falls National Park as well as the Crater Lake Region which is habitat the grand Blue Turaco.

Day 1: ARRIVAL

You will be received by a delegate from Africa Nature Trekkers who will transport you to a hotel in the capital Kampala. Basing on your arrival time of you visit the UWEC in the afternoon which is habitat to caged animals plus more than 170 bird species among which are 7 weaver species like the uncommon northern Masked-Weaver plus the Orange Weaver. Day 2: KAMPALA – MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

Following breakfast set off to Uganda’s most gorgeous protected area which prides in more than 450 bird species; the Murchison Falls National Park. Stop in the town of Masindi for lunch before entering the park. We will then go to the glorious falls where to marvel at the great River Nile. There you will watch the Mighty Nile force its way through a 7 meter gorge and thunderously drop 45 meters beneath in a series of fall. This breath taking scenery can however be seen from various points all the way to Baler’s Summit. In addition, you can see various birds such as the Rock Pranticoles, the African-Pied Wagtail and a variety of swifts. Dine and slumber at Red Chilli Rest Camp.

Day 3: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK

On having breakfast in the early morning depart for a guided game drive for half of the day along the northern River Nile. In addition to looking for wildlife like the Rothschild Giraffes, waterbucks, elephants and Jackson’s Hartebeests, you will see the prolific savannah woodland bird-life such as the Saddle billed Stork, Spotted Morning Thrush, Bruce’s Green Pigeon Grey Crowned Cranes, Chestnut Capped Weaver, Common Drongo, Namaqua Dove. Silver bird and the Black billed Dove
Following lunch have a wonderful launch cruise on the Nile to view game at very close proximity. Watch the hippos bathing, the crocodiles indolently lying by the river banks and lots of vivid Bee-eaters. Other bird species include the Goliath, African Pygmy, Purple backed Herons, Green and Grey backed Herons, Pied Kingfishers, Squacco Heron and the Malachite. Dine and slumber at Red Chilli Rest Camp.

Day 4: MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK – FORT PORTAL

We leave Murchison Falls and to Fort Portal. Be on the watch for birds such as the Senegal Coucals plus the White Browed along the way. The 8 hours drive will take you past some eye-catching views, through small African homesteads as well as banana plantations. The beautiful Fort Portal town lies at the bottom of the legendary ‘Mountains of the Moon’ which is well-known for its numerous tea plantations. From the town of Fort Portal we continue to Kibale Forest National Park. Dine and slumber in the Primate Lodge cottages in Kibale.

Day 5: BIGODI SWAMP & CRATER LAKES

In the early morning set-out to the tiny Bigodi villages for a stunning nature walk. The walk in the Bigodi Swamp is a project by the local residents and goes for about 2 hours. The swamp is recognized for its great bird diversity and is frequently referred to as the “Habitat of the Great-Blue-Turaco”, a gorgeous colored bird which you can never miss seeing. It is additionally a perfect destination to view some endemic bird species to this environment, such as the Papyrus Canary, White-Winged Warbler Marsh Tchagra and the Papyrus Gonolek. Following lunch we go past the Crater Lakes Region to view more birds. Marvel at the gorgeous hundreds of tiny craters and with a breathtaking backdrop as you go past small African villages. If lucky you will see the White-Spotted Fluff-tail, the stunning Yellow Billed Barbet, Scaly throated Honey-guide and the Blue Headed Coucals. Dine and slumber at Primate Lodge cottages Kibale.

Day 6: FORT PORTAL – KAMPALA

Following breakfast, return to Kampala having lunch along the way. Afternoon arrival in Kampala and be dropped at a hotel of your choice where you will unwind or enjoy sightseeing. Slumber at Banda Inn

Day 7: DEPARTURE
