This is a 4 day Uganda safari that takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. It involves various adventure activities that include Mountain Gorilla Tracking, bird watching, Nature Walks ,Game Viewing and cultural experience. Bwindi is home to 326 gorillas, almost a half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. There are also 346 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. This afromontane forest has dense under storey of fern, vines and shrubs. About 324 tree species have been recorded here, 10 of which occur nowhere else in Uganda. Other wildlife that you are likely to encounter in Bwindi includes a large variety of primates; Chimpanzees, Blue monkey and Black & White Colobus monkey, antelope and forest elephants. Tour of Lake Mburo National Park will introduce you to a very special experience! Every part of the park is alive with variety, interest and color. Lake Mburo National Park contains an extensive area of wetland and harbors several species of mammals including zebras, impalas, elands, topi and buffaloes. The bird population includes the rare Shoebill stork. Its sculptured landscape with rolling grassy hills and idyllic lakeshores has a varied mosaic of habitats: forest galleries, rich acacia tree valleys, seasonal and permanent swamps which all support a wealth of wildlife. The park has a mosaic habitat with; dry hillside, rocky outcrops, bushes, thickets, open and wooded savannahs, forests, lakes and swamps are home to a surprising diversity of plants and animals.
Day 1: Kampala - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (L, D)
Your Gorilla tracking journey begins from Kampala early in the morning by road and head south-westwards approximately 8-10hrs drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The park is best known for its Mountain Gorillas, primate presence and stunning bird population. You will have a short stop at the Equator for an educational talk as well as a photographic opportunity. The journey then continues to Mbarara where there will be a stopover stop for lunch. After lunch, drive onwards; a drive that will take you through Uganda’s rolling green hills through the highlands, also known as the ‘Switzerland of Uganda’ before making the final journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorilla. Check in at your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Day2: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (B, L, D)
This morning you will have to wake up very early to get ready for the most thrilling activity of Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park! Report at the ranger station at 8:00am with your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear where the guides will take you to track the rare Mountain Gorilla, perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. Gorilla tracking in Bwindi can take between a few hours and the whole day depending on the group that is being tracked. The guides describe the surroundings and the lifestyle of the animals in depth. After tracking, you can relax at your accommodation or go for a guided village walk to visit the Local Batwa Community returning in time for dinner and overnight.
Day3: Bwindi National Park - Lake Mburo National Park (B, L, D)
After breakfast the safari will proceed to Lake Mburo National Park. The drive takes approximately 7-8 hours with scenic views on the way all through. You will have a stopover in Mbarara town for lunch before making the final descent to Lake Mburo National Park. Upon arrival in Lake Mburo National Park and checking in at your accommodation, you will go for an afternoon boat trip. This park is an extension of the Tanzanian Plains with big herds of Zebra, Impala, Eland and other savannah species. For birders, this is one of the best places to find African Fin foot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike. Go for an evening game drive. Retire for the evening and spend the night at your accommodation.
Day 4: Lake Mburo National Park - Kampala (B,L)
This is the final day of your trip. After breakfast, have a guided nature walk and then proceed to Kampala which is approximately 3 to 4hrs drive. This drive will take you across the Equator where you will stop for photography as well as an informative talk, a stop at the Royal Drum makers is so rewarding, arriving in Kampala in the evening. End of Safari NOTE: This Safari can be reversed to start with Lake Mburo National Park and end with Bwindi National Park Please note that this is a guideline program that maybe customized according to travelers’ needs and preferences.
