This safari Adventure will take you to trek to the highest point in Uganda and 3rd highest mountain in Africa. Walk on glacier a few degrees north of the Equator, hike through the Bwindi Impenetrable forest the home of the endangered Mountain Gorillas and cup it up with trek on Mt. Sabinyo where the 3rd Peak the 3 countries of Rwanda, Uganda and DRC meet.
Highlights: Rwenzori Mountain trekking, Gorilla tracking, Chimpanzee tracking and Virunga Volcanoes.

Day 1: Arrival at the Entebbe International Airport

Arrival and transfer to your accommodation for overnight at Papyrus Guest house (B&B)Day

2: Explore Crater Lakes Kibale

After breakfast proceed to Kibale National Park with lunch stop at Garden Restaurant in Fort Portal to then proceed for guided community walk to explore the Crater Lake Region,

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking Kibale Forest

Full day chimpanzee tracking activity at Kanyanchu, clients to report at 6:30am for full day chimpanzee habituation experience where the clients will spend time with the Chimpanzees from nest to nest. Kanyanchu’s chimps have been tracked since 1993 and the chances of locating them are excellent

Day 4: Kasese – Nyakalengija Trail Head (1600m ASL)

Drive to Kasese via Fort Portal where lunch will be taken. Arrive in Kasese to make final arrangements for the trek before proceeding via Ibanda to the Nyakalengija trail head in the Rwenzori Mountains.

Overnight at Muhanga (FB).

Day 5: Trek to Nyabitaba (2650m ASL)

Proceed to the Nyakalengija trail head (1600m) where the Uganda Wildlife Authority will provide an informative briefing prior to commencing the trek. Walk past Bakonjo homesteads dwarfed by steep foothills and banana plantations. Follow the trail along the Mubuku River, to cross the Mahoma River and before climbing steadily through Podocarpus forest. O/N: Nyabitaba Hut (2650m) on a full board basis.

Day 6: Trek to John Matte Hut (3350m ASL)

After a substantive breakfast, depart Nyabitaba early, along a small trail dropping down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, just below the convergence of the Bujuku and Mubuku Rivers. The forest gradually turns into a bamboo zone where the trail is slippery and moss-covered. A zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel vegetation emerges before the Nyamileju rock shelter before traversing a bog to the hut. O/N: John Matte Hut (3350m) on a Full Board basis.

Day 7: Trek to Bujuku Hut (2900m ASL)

The trail crashes down to cross the Bujuku River and enters Lower Bigo Bog, home of giant lobelias. Cross the bog to the Upper Bigo bog before continuing to Lake Bujuku where views of the highest mountain – Stanley – to the west are to be seen. O/N: Bujuku Hut (3900m) on a Full Board basis.

Day 8 : Trek to Elena Hut (4541m ASL)

After Bujuku, the boggy trail climbs the slopes west of the lake, passing through the paranormal groundsel gully. Ascend to Scott-Elliot Pass (4372m). A metal ladder takes you over an extremely steep section after which the trail branches, the right leads up to Elena Hut and Mt Stanley over a steep rocky trail, while the left leads to Scott-Elliot Pass and down to Lake Kitandara. O/N: Elena Hut (4541m) at the base of the Stanley Glacier, on a Full Board basis.

Day 9: Ascent of Mount Stanley (5109m Asl) to Kitandara Hut (4027m ASL)

For those who do not wish to climb the peak, a more restful day walking from Elena Hut (4541m) to Lake Kitandara (4023m).

For those who wish, but also depending on altitude sickness, visibility, climbing ability and acclimatisation, climb a further three hours to Margherita peak (5109m) and later down to Kitandara Hut. Trek to the Elena glacier, before moving on to the Stanley Plateau. Climb and scramble to Margherita summit, the highest point of the Rwenzori. Use of Crampons and ropes may well be necessary. Be prepared for a tough, arduous time in the mountains. Return to the Scott-Elliot pass, view the magical Bujuku Lake and Mt Speke at a distance, continue to down to the Lake Kitandara. O/N: Kitandara Hut (4023m) on a Full Board basis.

Day 10: Trek to Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m ASL)

After breakfast, a steep climb from the base of Mt Baker to the south side of the mountain to the Fresh field Pass (4280m). Views into the Congo to the west and Mt Stanley to the north are possible. From the pass, the boggy trail continues downwards, passing the rock shelter at Bujangolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. Day 11: Trek to Nyakalengija Trail Head (1600m ASL)

The trail to Nyabitaba Hut can be muddy and very slippery under foot. Overnight Nyakalengija trail head.

Day 12: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Early morning to proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park for agame drive in the Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park the tracks through Kasenyi, the North Kazinga Plains offer virtually guaranteed buffalo, antelope and elephant sightings, along with warthogs and baboons. Taking an experienced guide in the early morning or at dusk is the most successful way to track down a pride of lions, and maybe even the odd leopard, in the afternoon conduct  boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel

Day 13: Buhoma Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Conduct morning Game drive in the Kasenyi sector and then proceed to the northern and southern circuit of the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park too then proceed to  Buhoma the northern sector of the Bwindi Impenetrable forest. In the evening you will meet with your walking safari guide to discuss the next day’s activity.

Day 14: Kashasha River Route Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast with your walking safari guide report to Uganda Wildlife Authority visitor’s reception to meet you park ranger escorts to then commence the walking safari activity via the Kashasha river route with the visit to the Muyanga water falls to ascend to Nkuringo, through the community trading centre rendezvous with your safari vehicle at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp.

Day 15: Gorilla Tracking Activity Nkuringo Group Bwindi Forest

Following a briefing, visitors embark on a forest trek lasting from a few hours up to a full day, depending on the location of the gorillas as they range freely in the impenetrable forest, which family ranges the Kashasha river valley below the Nteko ridge. On completion of this once in a lifetime opportunity you will return to Nkuringo to relax and reflect back on the day’s experience

Day 16: Gorilla Tracking Activity Rushaga Group Bwindi Forest

To these groups are welcomed at the Rushaga visitors centre within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest where they report on the morning of tracking for briefing before being guided into the forest by professional trackers and guide.

Day 17: Lake Mutanda – Kisoro

Depart Nkuringo after breakfast with your Nkuringo Walking Safari guide to commence walk to Lake Mutanda having been dropped by your safari vehicle at Rubuguri Junction. Here a 9km walk to the north shore of the lake is conducted where the dugout canoe team will rendezvous at the Rwajenje landing site with you to complete a traverse of the lake over 2 and 1/2 hours to the southern shore. From the southern shore it is a 90 minute walk into Kisoro town.

Day 18: Golden Monkey Mgahinga National Park

Day 19: Mount Sabinyo Mgahinga National Park

Drive to Mgahinga National Park 15 kms outside of Kisoro to start a Volcano climb of Mount Sabinyo. Mt. Sabinyo, at 3,669m, takes about eight hours to cover the 14km round trip, following a steep ridge up to the peak this trek will be conducted in the company of your Nkuringo Walking Safari guide.

Day 20: Lake Mburo National Park

It is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks and underlain by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks which date back more than 500 million years. It is home to 350 bird species as well as Zebra, Impala, Eland, Buffalo, Oribi, Defassa waterbuck, Hyena, Topi

Proceed to Lake Mburo National Park. A provision of 6 to 7 hours on the road between venues should be considered, you will then conduct the PM game drives activity and relax the evening away

Day 21: Lake Mburo National Park – Entebbe

Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to roam the park in search of wildlife the drive starts between 6.30-7pm and last two to three hours. The wildlife-rich eastern banks of Lake Mburo can be explored during a tranquil two-hour boat voyage. Depart after early lunch with coffee break at the Equator and also visits to African markets in Kampala. Depending on time of your flight departure, proceed to Papyrus guest house to freshen up before being transferred to the Airport for your late evening flight
