9 october: Arrival in Antananarivo
Today you’ve to arrive with a flight booked by yourself (or by an Agency ) in Antananarivo. You will arrive at Ivato airport. At the airport, it is possible to get a visa (± €23,- ). There is also a bank where you can exchange money. If we’ve your arrival time, a driver will pick you up and bring you to the hotel for your first night.
10 October: Antananarivo – Morondava (B, D)
Today you have to get up early and around breakfast you will meet the photographers and get a first short briefing of the trip. Then a bus will bring you all to the airport for the domestic flight to Morondava (10h50 – 11h50). Upon arrival there, you will be transferred to the nice hotel Baobab Café. After the check in and lunch you will have a first detailed group meeting with the photographers.
11 and 12 October: Morondava (B, D)
You have these two whole days to discover Morondava and its surroundings. The region of Morondava is famous due to its Baobab Alley. This Baobab Avenue is particularly magical during sunrise and sunset, which occurs about 30 minutes. Moreover, it is wonderful to relax in the hotel garden and seeing the local piroks sailing on the channel.The town can easily be explored on foot.
13 October: Morondava - Belo Sur Mer. (B, L, D)
Early in the morning, your driver brings you to a tiny harbour, where a motorized boot will transport you to the nice Ecolodge Entremer. You will spend the next few days and on full board in this small fisher village near the Mozambique Channel.
14 and 15 October: Belo Sur Mer (B, L, D)
Again two whole days in and around the Ecolodge Entremer, again on full board. Your hotel offers the possibility of snorkelling. But you can also take the service of a local fisher who brings you to some nice spots for snorkelling activities, or simply walk on foot during 60 to 90 minutes to discover other wonderful snorkelling areas. Other possibilities are the boat trip to amazing beaches or 30 minutes’ walk to the Kirindy Mitea natural reserve for a visit. This beautiful reserve is so remote that it is rarely visited. It is a transition region from the West with its baobab trees to the arid south with its special vegetation. All the fauna in this place is virtually 100% endemic, accordingly a must for true nature lovers!
16 October: Belo Sur Mer – Morondava (B, D)
Today, you will sail again by motorized boat back to Morondava, where you will have a last night at Half Board in Baobab Café hotel.
17 October: Morondava – Antsirabe (B, D)
Early after breakfast, we will start driving East by bus till Antsirabe. You’ll drive from the dry West, one of the hottest parts of Madagascar) to the highlands with its rice fields. If you leave on time, you will visit Miandrivazo, a small town laying on the Tsiribihina River but we can then also visit near Antsirabe the town of Betafo, where we can enjoy the typical architecture of this region, and walk across the market. The small town of Antsirabe is also called the ‘poussepousse city’ (rickshaw) or the ‘spa town’ of the red island. Walking through Antsirabe is very pleasant. If you arrive early in the afternoon, you still have time to drive to a nice small crater lake not far away from the city. Overnight on HB, with its lovely garden in the hotel Chambre du Voyageur.
18 and 19 October: Antsirabe - back land, (B, L, D)
We try this morning to manage a visit at the THB factory. The word ‘THB’ is a well-known term in Madagascar. This is the famous Malagasy beer, which is produced in Antsirabe since 1958 by the local STAR Company. After the visit, you begin your trekking through the highland, in the region of Vakinankaratra, accompanied by a local tour guide. Your car will first bring you to 6 km westward from Antsirabe, to a place called Ambodirano, your departing point for the trekking. You will experience the daily life of local people (agriculture) as well as the way of living on the highland. This trekking tour allow you to know more about the highland’s culture, tradition and customs. You will also walk through volcanic regions, small villages and rice fields in terraces. From time to time, you will have fantastic panoramic views over the hills. You sleep 2 nights in a farmhouse in the village Fiadanana.
20 October: Antsirabe - Antananarivo (B, D)
In the morning, we will still have some time to visit Antsirabetown before you drive back to the capital, which you will reach within 3, 5 hours.
21 October: Antananarivo (B, D)
A day excursion to the private park of Pereyras, about 2 hours’ drive eastward from the capital, stays on your today’s program is. In this small park but very interesting, you will see reptiles, most of them endemic in Madagascar, as well as lemurs. This is a perfect place for taking pictures of these amazing animals.
22 October: Antananarivo – Maroantsetra (B, D)
Early in the morning transfer to the airport for the domestic flight to Maroantsetra, 10h45 – 12h00), a rainforest area in the north east of Madagascar. Maroantsetra is a beautiful seaside city and has only few tourists. This makes it so pleasant to walk or to ride on bike through this small town. Overnight on Half Board at the Hotel Coco Beach.
23 October: Maroantsetra – Masoala (B, L, D)
Early in the morning, you leave the tiny harbour of Maroantsetra by boat and continue your way, during 2 hours, to the Arol Ecolodge near the Masoala National Park. Here, you will stay four nights on Full Board, ‘the ultimate rainforest experience’.
24, 25 and 26 and October: Masoala (Arol Lodge) (B, L, D)
Three days at the Masoala National Park, where you walk through the primary rainforest and look for lemurs, the smallest and the largest chameleons and other interesting animals. You can choose from hiking through the rainforest, the primary rainforest of the coastal part, visiting local villages, or snorkelling. Night walks are also possible. All of the above mentioned excursions are included in the price as well as your accommodation on Full Board.
27 October: Masoala – Maroantsetra (B, D)
Today, and at your convenience we will sail back to Maroantsetra over sea by boat to Maroantsetra. Overnight on Half Board at the Coco beach hotel.
28 October: Maroantsetra (B, D)
A whole day dedicated for Maroantsetra and its surroundings. You can wake up very early in the morning and walk through the town with your camera or ride on bike for better knowing this nice place.
29 October: Maroantsetra - Antananarivo (B, D)
In the morning, you still have enough time to get more information about Maroantsetra. Later that day you drive to the airport and fly back to Antananarivo: 12h35 – 13h50. On your arrival, transfer to a hotel near the airport. After diner departure with an intercontinental flight in the evening.
