I visited in July 2016
My friends and I (5 Malaysians, 4 Americans and 1 European nationalities) booked a safari for 10 persons with Kapolondo Expeditions (through Tony Kapolondo) from 27th June to 5th July 2016. We went on that safari and stayed three nights at Serengeti National Park and a few other national parks and venues. Unfortunately, we were scammed during the trip. Details are as follows:
3rd July 2016
Waited for more than 2 hours at Tanapa Fort Ikoma Gate (Serengeti National Park). Francis (one of Kapolondo's guide) claims that the company credit card had some issues and could not pay for the entry fee for the entire group. The total for that payment was USD 639.56. All entry fees are included in the total package, which we have fully paid.
Francis said that he had called Tony and he has asked Francis to ask us to make the payment first. Tony promised to meet us and repay us in cash, once we reach Karatu (2 days away). We were not given a choice and given the impression that either we make the payment or not proceed with our safari. We had to make the payment.
4th July 2016
Reached Karatu on the evening of 4th July. Tony did not show up at our lodge to repay me even though we saw Tony passing by in Karatu.
At this point, we realized that it was a scam as Francis’ credit card was working fine in all other payments before and after Ikoma Gate (he had to pay for entry into Ngorongoro Conservatory plus also the visit to the Hadzeby Tribe. The next morning, Francis assured me that Tony will repay me once we reach Mvuli Lodge in Arusha when we end our Safari.
5th July 2016
Upon reaching Mvuli Lodge, Tony was not there. This was the end of our safari. He had instructed his drivers to drop us off and leave the premises. I tried to contact Tony but was not successful. Later, Tony called me through the hotel's phone and said that he is currently not in Arusha and promised me that he has banked the money into my account. I will receive the full amount 2 to 3 days later. At that moment, I knew that he could not have done so since he did not have my account details. I attempted to call him several times on whatsapp but he just terminated the calls every single time. Mvuli Hotel staff helped me to call and surprisingly, Tony answered. He said that he has already discuss with us and terminated the call.
6th July 2016
We had to leave Arusha on our very early morning flights home.
To make a long story short, Tony has given many tall stories on how he will repay but as of today, he has not kept any of his promises.
And by the way, all our lodges were changed 10 days before our safari, we spent hours under the sun because the vehicle broke down at least 3 times, etc.
There are more than 180 other safari operators our there. You decide who to choose!
