Day 1: Arrival
Welcome to the beautiful land of “a thousand hill.” Our guide/representative staff will be at the airport to pick you. Have lunch in the city and proceed to Akagera National Park there after arriving late afternoon.
Day 2: Explore Akagera National Park
Akagera National Park is a savannah park with Elephants, Hippos, Buffaloes and and Leopards, after breakfast we take a game drive in search of these animals. Watch them as they go about in their natural habitat, for those interested we will take a boat ride on Lake Ihema.
Day 3: Travel to the home of chimpanzees – Nyungwe Forest
This morning we depart for Nyungwe forest having lunch en-route in Butare. We will also explore Butare National Museum and the genocide memorial in Nyanza. We arrive in Nyungwe forest later in the evening.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Tracking and Canopy Walk
After an early breakfast, we leave for Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest. The forest is rich in botanical diversity and home to 13 species of primates including Chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, and Columbus monkeys with 300 bird species.
Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes national park
We leave for Volcanoes national park after breakfast. We have views of Lake Kivu with its Islands on our way, arriving at the hotel in the evening. Enjoy the winding roads and scenery along the way.
Day 6: Gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes
Meet the mountain gorillas in the dense jungles of the Virunga ranges. Embark on the trek through the habitat of these enormous animals.Such an unforgettable experience on many peoples bucket list. The trek can last from an hour to seven hours depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night – you need to be relatively fit to enjoy this experience.
Depending on the time the gorilla tracking lasts, you have opportunities for a cultural group performance, visit to twin lakes or Batwa visit – alternatively you can choose to rest.
Day 7: Lake Kivu
Wake up with memories of mountain gorillas in the Virunga jungles. Depending on your departure time, track golden monkeysor visit the grave of Diane Fossey and the gorilla cemetery. Leave for Gisenyi where we visit the fishing village, hot springs, visit DRC-Rwanda border (Gisenyi town) and relax at the lakeside in the evening.
Day 8: Departure
After a relaxed morning, we leave for Kigali for your return flight or hotel.
