Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe forest
This morning we depart for Nyungwe forest having lunch en-route in Butare. We will also explore Butare National Museum and the genocide memorial in Nyanza. We arrive in Nyungwe forest later in the evening.
Day 2: Transfer to the home of Chimps
After an early breakfast, we leave for Chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe forest. The forest is rich in botanical diversity and home to 13 species of primates including Chimpanzees, L’Hoest monkeys, and Columbus monkeys with 300 bird species.
Day 3: From Chimps trekking to Gorilla trekking
Today after breakfast we transfer to Volcanoes national park in preparation for gorilla trekking the next day
Day 4: Gorilla trekking
Meet the mountain gorillas in the dense jungles of the Virunga ranges. Embark on the trek through the habitat of these enormous animals. Such an unforgettable experience on many peoples bucket list. The trek can last from an hour to seven hours depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night – you need to be relatively fit to enjoy this experience.
Depending on the time the gorilla tracking lasts, you have opportunities for a cultural group performance, visit to twin lakes or Batwa visit – alternatively you can choose to rest.
Day 5: Transfer to Kigali - departure
Wake up with memories of the previous day in the jungle with mountain gorillas. Depending on your departure time, track golden monkeysor visit the grave of Diane Fossey and the gorilla cemetery in the morning after which you leave for Kigali for your return flight or hotel.
