11 Day Southern Africa Wildlife Trail

We start our safe camping or lodge accommodated journey to the world - renowned Kruger national park, which offers the best wildlife experience in Africa, then to one of the most important archaeological sites in Africa, the great Zimbabwe ruins. Departing to Chipangali wildlife orphanage, haven to orphaned, abandoned and sick wild animals, which are rescued and rehabilitated to return to the wild again, then to Victoria Falls with its thundering waterfall that will take your breath away, also known as the capital of adventure activities. after all the Adrenalin rush we leave to Chobe national park renowned for its high density of elephants, also home of the big five, that offers sensational game viewing. Down to South of Botswana and then back to Johannesburg.

Day 1:

Pick you up from OR Tambo International Airport, or nearby lodge/hotel at 05h00

We then travel through Mpumalanga, “the place where the sun rises” –a beautiful province with spectacular scenic and abundance of wildlife. We will stop en-route for breakfast (own expense) and will continue via Belfast and Dullstroom to Lydenburg which means “place of suffering”. Pioneer Voortrekkers fleeing malaria and the debilitating heat of lower lying areas in the early 1800’s founded this town. After lunch, we work our way to South Africa’s world-renowned Kruger National Park that offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. After entering Orpen Gate we will explore the park and wildlife on our way until we reach our camp at Satara, often referred as the “cat camp” Large cats are frequently spotted in the Muzadzeni area, where a large and successful lion pride operates. Here we will book into our lodge or camp, before we will enjoy a hearty dinner, that evening. (Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2:

Up at 05h00 leaving the camp as soon as the gates open, and depart to Olifantskamp where we will enjoy breakfast. We continue our safari to visit the Elephant museum, which houses the enormous tusks of the “Magnificent Seven” –the seven greatest elephants ever to roam in the Kruger National Park. We will stop for lunch ( own expense) and still exploring the afternoon wildlife of the Kruger National Park, on our way to our overnight destination which is situated in the Sandveld region, and is often described as the botanical gardens of the Kruger National Park. Here you will go on a night drive with rangers of the park, and get the opportunity to see the nocturnal animals that only come out at night. We will enjoy dinner before we get to retire to our suites or tents for some peaceful sleep before the next exciting day. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 3:

Up at 05h00 to leave the camp as soon as the gates open, and work our way to Pafuri Gate that is one of the most ecologically diverse areas of the park, and is known as the Northern “biome”. We will stop for breakfast at Mesina, and there after continue our journey to Beitbrug Border Post, where we will enter Zimbabwe. We will stop for lunch   (own expense) near Masivingo .Our journey leads us to  Norma Jean’s Lake , set in the granite Hills and Msasa woodlands overlooking Lake Mutirikwe , where  we will book into our camp or lodge and will enjoy dinner together . (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 4:

 Wake up at 06h00 to enjoy breakfast at 07h00. We take a guided walking tour of the great Zimbabwe Ruins that are one of the most important archeological sites in Africa, giving testimony to the lost civilization of the Shona. It also is the largest collection of Ruins in Africa, south of the Sahara, and they are testament of a culture of great wealth and great architectural skills. From here, our final stretch for the day will be Antelope Park that is home to the world famous African Lion and Environment research trust lion rehabilitation program, which is a multi- phase lion conservation initiative. Here we will enjoy lunch, and book into our lodge or camp. After lunch, you will get the opportunity to spot excellent wildlife, and sunset on an afternoon boat cruise. By our return from the sunset cruise, we will enjoy a hearty dinner together. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5:

Up at 06h00 to be in time for breakfast at 07h00. We leave Antelope Park for Bulawayo where we will visit the Chipangali wildlife Orphanage on a guided tour. Chipangali means,” open friendly country” and is heaven for wild animals, and has been featured in countless documentaries. It is now world renowned for its pioneer work, and is famed as one of Africa’s largest and most successful wildlife rehabilitation / release centers. We then make our way back to Bulawayo where we will get Lunch en-route. There after we continue our journey to the “Place of Elephants” – Ivory lodge, which is “big game” country and elephants, lion, leopards and buffalo are seen regularly from camp while visiting the waterhole. Here we will book into our lodge or camp, before enjoying a nice dinner that evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6:

We will enjoy breakfast at 07h00 and leave Ivory lodge at 08h00 for Victoria  Falls or Mosi - oa - Tunya “ the Smoke that Thunders” which is a waterfall in Southern Africa  on the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. Victoria Falls is known as the greatest curtain of falling water in the world. We will stop for en –route lunch, and then make the bookings for the optional activities for the next day like, white river rafting, bungi, big swing. After setting in at our camp or lodge, we will leave to explore the magnificent Victoria Falls. Later that evening we will enjoy dinner at a restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 7:

This day is spent on our own leisure, after breakfast at 07h00. The town of Victoria Falls originally became established as a trading post called Old Drift on the Zambian side, of the river where they used to cross the Zambezi. The Lunar rainbow occurs January through to about October. The Lunar happens when the water level in the Zambezi River is high enough to cause heavy spray to blend adequately with the moon rays. Later that evening we will enjoy a hearty dinner together. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 8:

Early morning rise, as we have breakfast at 08h00, and leave Victoria Falls at 09h00 for Kazangula Border Post, where we will enter into Botswana. We make our way to Kasane, where we will stop to enjoy lunch at Chobe, and will book into our lodges or camp. At 15h00 we will go on a sunset boat cruise on the Chobe River, because sunset are good times to view wildlife, as this is when the animals are most active around the river. The navigable Chobe River has the largest conservation of elephants in the world, and makes it one of Africa’s top safari destinations.  After an exciting sunset on the Chobe under the Botswana sky, we will enjoy a dinner together that evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 9:

We will be up at 05h00 to go on a 06h00 morning game drive, to Chobe National Park in open vehicles accompanied by park rangers. Chobe National Park is known as “ the land of the Giants” The best game viewing is to be found first thing in the early morning at drinking holes, when the wildlife are more active. On our return around 09h00 we will have brunch and then we will work our way to Nata, to have a lunch that afternoon, and book into our lodge or camp. After relaxing the afternoon, we will meet in the restaurant for a nice dinner that evening. (Brunch, Dinner)

Day 10:

Up at 06h00 to enjoy breakfast at 07h00. We leave Nata lodge at 08h00 to Francistown, the second largest city in Botswana. We will arrive at Francistown in time to enjoy a lunch (own expense). From here we continue our journey to Palapye where we will spend the afternoon around the swimming pool, and relax on own leisure. We will book into our lodge or camp, and will spend the last night together under the Botswana sky with a hearty dinner. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 11:

We wake up at 05h00 to leave Palapye for Martins Drift border Post, back into South Africa. We will then work our way to Mokopane, where we will stop for brunch. Our final stretch will be after brunch to Johannesburg, where we will arrive around 18h00 and say our goodbyes at OR Tambo International Airport or nearby lodge. (Brunch)
