11 Day Namibia Desert Safari

As we pick you up from your lodge or hotel in Windhoek, either for a camping or lodge accommodated safari, we start to explore Windhoek , with its characterized German style buildings, museums ,Alte Feste fort and much more. That brings us to the next step of the safe Namib desert tour, the red sand dunes of Sesriem, and Sossusvlei, and still in the desert, believe it or not, we will have a nice taste of the best and most famous apple pie in the world, at Solitaire. Then we move on to Walvisbay and Swakopmund, for fun at Long Beach, when we will race to the top of the highest dune - dune 7 or quad biking into the desert e.g. We will make our way to Damaraland, where we will visit Cape Cross, the largest mainland breeding colony of cape cross seals in the world, then to the mining town Tsumeb, where we will visit lake Otjikoto -small but deep, where military weapons were dumped into the lake during the war .We will visit Etosha national park ("it's characteristic is a salt pan so large, it can be seen from space”), where you will find the most common and rarest wildlife .Our next stop will be a nice dinner together at Joe’s pub with its very original witty decor before we say our goodbyes back at our camp/ lodge

 Day 1:

Pick you up at 08h00 from your lodge or hotel in Windhoek. Travel to downtown where we will visit the Alte Feste, which is the oldest building in Windhoek, and that was used as a barracks. We will also visit the Christ Church that is a historical landmark, the St Georges Cathedral, the National Museum, Owela Museum, the Geological Survey Museum, Railway Station and more. We will enjoy lunch at Joe’s Pub, and then be still exploring Windhoek thereafter. After the Windhoek excursion, we will leave for our lodge or camp, where we will book in, and enjoy a dinner that evening. (Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2:

We wake up at 06h00 in time for breakfast at 07h00, and leave our camp/ lodge at 08h00. We travel towards Sossusvlei and stop in Reboth where we will get en-route lunch (own expense). We then continue our journey up to our campsite/ lodge on the outskirts of Sossusvlei, where we will book in, and for those who want, can go on a sundowner walk. We enjoy a hearty dinner this evening. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 3:

An early rise to have breakfast at 07h00, and then leave for Sossusvlei. Sossusvlei is possibly Namibia’s most spectacular and best- known attraction, characterized by the large red dunes that surround it. Sossusvlei is a large, white salt and clay pan, and a great destination all year round. The dunes in this area are some of the highest in the world, and provide photographic enthusiast with spectacular images, in the beautiful morning and evening light. From Sossusvlei we travel to Solitaire where we will enjoy lunch at the Famous Apple Pie restaurant. From here, our journey continues to our lodge/ campsite, where we will book in. We then go on a Cheetah tracking safari for 1 hour, before we will enjoy a hearty dinner that evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4:

Wake up at 06h00 to be ready for breakfast at 07h00. At 09h 00 our journey continues from Solitaire up to Walvisbay, which is a town located in Namibia on the west coastline, and hails its name from when it was a main whaling station in this area of the globe, and which in turn draws in large quantities of whales throughout certain times of the year. We will enjoy lunch in Walvisbay before we will continue to Long Beach, between Walvisbay and Swakopmund, where we will spend a few nights. On arriving at our camp/lodge, we will book our optional activities for the upcoming days and then relax at our own leisure. We will enjoy dinner later that evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 5:

Wake up at 06h00 to be ready for breakfast at 07h00. At 08h 00, we will be picked up from our camp/lodge, for a living desert tour up to 13h00. This half-day desert tour concentrates on exploring the local dune-belt between Walvisbay and Swakopmund. Arriving from the desert, we will enjoy lunch at our camp/lodge, before we will go on a Walvisbay excursion. We will visit the Flamingo’s, Saltpans, and Bay point. There after we will have dinner in Walvisbay at a restaurant before we head back to our campsite/lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 6:

We wake up at 06h00 and enjoy breakfast at 07h00. The rest of the day is spent at our leisure with the optional activities, or just relaxing in camp. Later the afternoon we will explore Swakopmund, and will enjoy dinner in town, before returning to our campsite/lodge. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 7:

An early rise at 06h00 to have breakfast at 07h00, then leaving Walvisbay at 08h00 via Henties Bay to Cape Cross, where we will visit the seal colony. Cape Cross is Namibia’s most popular tourist attraction in breeding season, when thousands of seals come to shore, making an amazing sight. Later we will enjoy lunch in Henties Bay, before making our way to Khorixas, where we will visit the Petrified Forest, deep in the heart of Damaraland. Here you can see the fossilized trunks of trees, which are estimated to be 280 million years old. From here, we work our way to our camp/lodge, where we will book in and enjoy dinner. Day 8:

We wake up at 06h00 and have breakfast at 07h00. After breakfast, we leave Khorixas to our next destination - Outjo, where we will have a quick stop. Then we travel to Etosha National Park, world renowned for its spectacular wildlife, and one of the largest conservation areas in Africa. Lunch packs will be provided. As soon as we enter Etosha National Park, we will have another quick stop, before working our way through the park, to our overnight lodge or campsite. We will book in, and then go on an open vehicle night game drive for three hours, with rangers from the park. We will have dinner before or after the game drive, depending time. (Breakfast, Lunch packs, Dinner)

Day 9:

Today we have breakfast at 08h00 and leaving the camp at 09h00, doing self-drive game viewing up to our next destination, still inside the park. We will visit the Namutoni Fort on our way. Namutoni was originally established as a control post during the mad cow disease, epidemic of 1897. We will have lunch at Namutoni, before we make our way to the overnight destination. At our lodge / campsite, we will book in, and then watch the wildlife around the waterholes. We will enjoy a nice dinner that evening. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 10:

Up at 06h00 to leave our camp/lodge as soon as the gates open, and work our way to Otjikoto, near Tsumeb. Here we will visit Lake Otjikoto, which was exposed when the roof of what used to be a dolomite cave gave in. During World War 1 the Union of South Africa, which was still part of the British Empire, was ordered to invade German Southwest Africa (Namibia). The entire enemies’s artillery was dumped into the lake. After visiting Lake Otjikoto, we will enjoy breakfast in Tsumeb, and then continue to the Hoba Meteorite. This is the largest known Meteorite and likewise the largest known single mass of native iron known on earth. We will   enjoy lunch at Grootfontein. We   then go to our overnight camp/lodge. Here we will book in and will go on an open vehicle game drive before enjoying a hearty dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 11:

Wake up at 06h00 and have breakfast at 07h00. We leave our lodge/ camp at 08h00 via Otjiwarongo to Okahandja, also the garden town of Namibia. On the 23 rd August 1850 the “Bloodbath of Okahandja” took place between the Nama and Herero speaking people. Today this historical battle site is known as “Moordkoppie” .We will continue our journey to our destination where we will have a short ostrich and crocodile tour before we have lunch. After lunch, we work our way back to Windhoek where we will book into our lodge/ campsite. That evening we will spend our last dinner together, and will say our goodbyes (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
