You will be given a short briefing and we will answer any questions you might have regarding your upcoming safari. Enjoy your first night in Uganda at the Karibu Guesthouse in Entebbe!

Day 2 - Entebbe

Your first day in Uganda takes you on a boat cruise over Lake Victoria - the second largest fresh water lake in the world. While on the boat cruise you will visit the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is the only chimp sanctuary in the entire region. Ngamba island has become a refuge for chimpanzees that have been injured, rescued from illegal trade or displaced by logging operations.

Time permitting, the following extra cost activities are available for today:

A visit to the Mabamba Swamps on the shorelines of a bay by the same name. Here you have the opportunity to venture out in a dug-out canoe, experience the dense vegetation of this natural swampland and observe dozens of bird species such as fish eagles and the rare and endangered shoebill stork.

Day 3 - Entebbe - Kibale Forest National Park

Right after breakfast you will drive to the unique Kibale Forest National Park, where you will have the opportunity to track chimpanzees in their natural habitat and relish sensational views of a lush green rainforest alive with the cacophonous calls of birds. There are now more than 1.000 chimpanzees living in the region, as well as black and white and red colobus monkeys. You also have the chance to observe the massive, lumbering forest elephants and hundreds of tropical bird species. Enjoy your first bush dinner and overnight at the Kibale Chimp's Nest on the edge of the park.

Day 4 - Kibale Forest National Park - Queen Elizabeth National Park

Kibale is home to the largest population of primates in the world and today you will go on an exhilarating search for chimpanzees in the dense tropical forest. You will also observe a great number of tropical bird species in their natural habitat.

Time permitting the following optional activities are available on this or the previous day for an extra cost:

Bigodi Swamp Walk: Venture into the Bigodi Swamp, past scenic villages and forest tracks in search of several monkeys, including the black, white and red Colobus, mangabey and vervet. The wetland is community managed and known for its biodiversity.

Crater Lake Hike: Alternatively, you can bike or hike around the Kyaninga Crater Lake, which features invigorating views of undisturbed landscapes and gives you the opportunity to experience the lush flora and fauna of this region. Thereafter, your journey continues to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 5 - Queen Elizabeth National Park

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the oldest park lands in Uganda and an early morning game drive through through its lush wood and savannah provides you with an amazing opportunity to see a variety of wildlife up close. The park is home to 95 species of mammals and over 500 species of tropical birds. It also boasts the world's largest concentration of hippos. After the game drive, you will experience an exciting boat cruise on the famous Kazinga Channel, a 32km long natural link between two of the largest lakes in the area, Lake Edward and Lake George.

Time permitting the following optional activities are available on this day for an extra cost:

Balloon Safari: Catch the sunrise as you silently glide over the park in a large hot air balloon. Enjoy a bush breakfast in the wild with the serene vistas of rolling green hills and savannas as a backdrop.

Day 6 - Queen Elizabeth National Park - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will make your way from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is home to the world famous mountain gorillas. Almost half of all mountain gorillas live in Bwindi and the park itself is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its expanse of ancient and undisturbed tropical rainforest dating back to the last ice age. The lush opportunities for exploration that nature has to offer in this park appear almost limitless. Enjoy your dinner and overnight at the Gorilla Valley Lodge.

Day 7 - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

In the morning you will venture out on a trek into the dense and tangled rainforest past beautiful water falls with sunlight filtering through the dense foliage of the jungle canopy. Today’s activity represents another major highlight of your Ugandan safari as you are going to track the world famous mountain gorillas! On this tracking adventure, you will have the opportunity to visit the mountain gorilla’s natural habitat of shady bamboo thickets and relish sensational views of lush green rainforest alive with the cacophonous calls of birds. Nothing can prepare you for the impact of encountering a mountain gorilla close up. They are twice the size of an average man, yet remarkably gentle and tolerant of human visitors.

Day 8 - Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Today you will take a short ride to reach the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Here you will venture into the forests to track the rare and endangered golden monkeys, which are considered the smallest of the primates. Next you will make your way to the 'Batwa Trail', which was created by the Batwa Forest People and has been supported by the International Gorilla Conservation Programme. Batwa guides take visitors on a day long hike along the mountain trails in Mgahinga to share with them the secrets of this primeval forest.

Time permitting the following optional activities are available on this day for an extra cost:

Volcano Trekking: Alternatively, you can venture on an exhilarating climb up one of the three Virunga Volcanoes on the Ugandan side of the border. The climbs vary in degrees of difficulty and lengths. Mount Muhabura is considered demanding. Mount Sabinyo can be demanding and sometimes difficult. Mount Gahinga is the smallest and therefore the easiest to climb.

Day 9 - Mgahinga Gorilla National Park - Lake Mburo National Park

Time to say goodbye to the gorillas and the jungle. Your safari continues to Lake Mburo National Park in the afternoon, which is the smallest of the national parks in Uganda - but should not be underestimated! Here you can discover a variety of wildlife such as the impala antelope. For the bird watcher, there is also the chance of encountering an abundance of tropical birds. You may enjoy a boat ride on the lake or game drive/bush walk through the park, which is famous for its scenic landscapes, dazzling variety of antelopes and large herds of zebras. Giraffes were recently introduced to the park after being translocated here from other national park lands.
