The early morning departure from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park leads via Mbarara, where you will stop briefly for lunch. The total driving time is approximately 7 hours and you check into the Ishasha Jungle Lodge in the afternoon, enjoying your first late afternoon game drive thereafter. Dinner and overnight at the Ishasha Jungle Lodge.
You will start the day with an early morning game drive to find the elusive tree climbing lions of Ishasha. The game drive may last up to 3 hours, returning to the lodge in time for a full breakfast. Transfer by noon to the Silverback Lodge just outside the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for your gorilla tracking adventure. The transfer may take approximately 2 hours to complete. Dinner and overnight at the Silverback Lodge.
Early morning breakfast at the lodge and transfer to the gorilla trekking start off point. The gorilla briefing is done from 7.45 am to 8.15 am and thereafter gorilla trekking starts in earnest. The trekking can last from 3 to 8 hours depending on how far the gorillas moved through the forest the previous day.
On this tracking adventure, you will have the exhilarating opportunity to see the Mountain Gorillas in their natural habitat of shady bamboo thickets and relish sensational views of lush green tropical forests, alive with the cacophonous calls of varicoloured birds. Nothing can prepare one for the impact of encountering a mountain gorilla close up, twice the size of an average man, yet remarkably gentle and tolerant of human visitors. You can experience all this while you will be accompanied by trained rangers to guide you through the experience. Dinner and overnight at the Silverback Lodge.
Depart Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for your return drive to Kampala. En-route you will have one stop in Mbarara for lunch and a photo opportunity at the Equator crossing. This will be a 10 hour drive.
