Day 1: After Your arrival at Kanombe International Airport, we travel to Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, and check in at the hotel where you will spend the first night. Depending on the time of your arrival, time may even allow us to dive into Kigali and take a city tour and visit some of the historical and modern locations. These include the Kigali Memorial Centre and a city trip.
Day 2: On the second day and after a healthy breakfast and briefing for the day, we move to Gisenyi. Gisenyi has amazing plateaus from where you can get an overview of lake Kivu’s shores and interact with the Banyarwanda people of the region. Lake Kivu is one of the Great Lakes for which the entire tri-country area of Uganda, Rwanda, and the DR Congo carries its name. The temperate climate of the region directly explains the diversity of forms of farming. Coffee, sorghum, potatoes, bananas, beans, and tobacco are harvested. We spend Our night at our hotel in Gisenyi and prepare for the next day and hike on top of Mt. Nyiragongo.
Day 3: After a nutritious breakfast, it is time for us to drive cross the Congolese border and get our visa’s stamped. The entire Virunga chain can be seen from the curvy roads in a unbelievable natural environment. Upon reaching the foot of Mt. Nyiragongo, the active volcano, we pack for the hike and have our briefing. We will meet park rangers and start the hike up the virunga volcano. The hike up the volcano is usually in hot conditions, but the path itself is relatively easy to be mastered and not extremely steep. The area is covered in mostly ferns and sedge. At last, we arrive at the summit of Mt. Nyiragongo. For ouselves, we explore the giant crater of the volcano. After exploring the rim of Nyiragongo, we begin to set up our camp for the night to come and enjoy a hearty dinner made with fresh local ingredients we bought back in Goma. We will spend a whole night on top of the volcano, enjoying the outstanding view inside the heart of the earth and the boiling lava below us!
Day 4: Today, we will explore the top of the volcano. Before noon, we will start descending and will soon reach the bottom of the volcano. We will say good bye to Nyiragongo, the local people, and the DR Congo. We drive back to Kigali, Rwanda, where you will be in time to catch your evening flight.
