For 8 days, this exploratory journey takes you through Kenya’s pristine wilderness and community lands all under the care of a professional safari team. Plan to stay in clean and comfortable lodges, cottages and community camps strategically located in the parks and community areas.

Our adventure begins at the laid back Malu; a private reserve for an intimate bush adventure that features cycling, hiking and horseback rides. We then proceed further West to the second largest fresh water mass, Lake Victoria and test our fishing skills and enjoy a home stay by the lake shore.

Day 1

Malu,Naivasha

We leave Nairobi at 1000 hrs driving through the Great Rift of Kenya with a picturesque view of the eye-catching landscape. We continue down the rift Valley escarpment to Malu, Naivasha arriving in time for a lunch. Afternoon at leisure for a deserved siesta or simply enjoy the cozy and serene atmosphere of this splendid bush retreat. Nestled in ancient cedar forest, the cottages offer breathtaking views of Mt Longonot, Lake Naivasha and the Great Rift Valley.During our three day stay at Malu, many out-door adventures await us; we can choose to engage in casual, informative, walk with resident naturalists, cycling, horse riding and bird watching.Dinner and overnight at Malu (B, L, D)

Day 2

Lake Nakuru

Today, a two-hour drive gets us to Lake Nakuru where we have the chance to see the greatest bird spectacle in the world.A million or so flamingoes, beside pelicans and cormorants make Lake Nakuru a bird lover’s paradise.

A game drive through the various habitats of the park will certainly reveal why the park earned its status as a RAMSAR site as well as one of the best performing Rhino sanctuaries in Africa.Lunch at the Sarova Lion hill lodge with a panoramic view of the lake. Afternoon gamedrive and back to Malu for overnight stay (B, L, D)

Day 3

Malu,Naivasha

A free morning to relax and unwind or engage in any of the activities available at Malu. After lunch, we could opt for two hour excursion down the impressive Ol-njorowa Gorge within the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park or a boat ride in the nearby Lake Naivasha. The only fresh water Rift Valley Lake in Kenya. We undertake a memorable boat trip spiced with bird watching opportunities. Return to Malu for a sumptuous dinner, starlit skies and sleep to the sounds of the African bush. (B, L, D)

Day 4-5

Kisumu

About 0900 hrs, we check out of the cottage and drive further west (three hours) onto Kisumu, a beautiful city lying next to Africa’s largest fresh water mass, Lake Victoria. We check into our serene village overlooking this awesome water mass, the right place to experience the splendor of the African Lake communities in all its raw and stunning beauties. This area is home to the second largest tribe in the country, the Luo with fishing as their mainstay economic activity. During our visit, feel free to wander amongst the villagers and take in the surrounding rural scenes.Try and strike up a conversation with the locals and enjoy their hospitality. We can opt for a boat trip, an excellent chance to match our fishing skills with the local fishermen.Later enjoy fine African Cuisine, such as ‘nyama choma’ (roasted meat), and ‘samaki choma’ (roasted fish).Overnight homestay by the lake (B, L, D)

Day 6-7

Maasai Mara

Just after breakfast, we set off for a four to five hour drive to the haven of wildlife-the Maasai Mara and check in at a wilderness camp, Mara Siria. Our two-day stay is a ritual of morning and evening game drives exploring the intrigues and fascinations of the Mara. This is where you can see elephant, buffalo, lion, cheetah, leopard, zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodile and a whole ark-full of other animals. From July through September vast herds of wildebeest and zebra migrate north from the Serengeti across the Mara River into Kenya creating an incredible spectacle of nature. The experience in Maasai Mara is incomplete without interacting with the locals. We visit a unique Maasai Cultural village where you get to interact with the community guides, interpreters and elders. On showcase are dances, folklore, fire making techniques and lots of cultural activities that make us realize how different (and yet how similar) their everyday life is to ours.Hot-air balloon safaris are available at an additional cost (USD 450 per person). (B, L, D)

Day 8

Nairobi

After an early morning game drive and breakfast, we say ‘kwaheri’ (farewell) to the awesome Mara and the camp staff and drive back to Nairobi (approximately five hours) with en-route lunch arriving late afternoon.

You could opt for last minute shopping at the Utamaduni crafts centre before a farewell dinner by our hosts then its time to transfer to the airport for flight back home, marking the end of a memorable vacation. (B, L, D)
