Traveling Solo in Tanzania

Written on: October 01, 2013   |   I visited in June 2013 I spent a great month in Tanzani last June. I arrived with out any plans as I usually do when I travel. Come to find out this is not any easy place to make plans, especially if you are traveling alone. Anyway, I ended up doing quite a lot. It was all about finding the right people.

I joined a group for a Kilimanjaro trek on the Machame 7 day route. The trek was great, but it was much more crowded than I had ever imagined. Luckly I met a Peace Corps Volunteer at the start of my trip, who put me in contact with Ben at eTrip Africa. He had a group departure on Kili which was nice. I saved some money and made a few new friends.

From here Ben helped me organize a camping safari to Tarangire, Manyara, Eyasi, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, and Lake Natron. It was a bit over my budget, but well worth it. I really got to know Fredrick who drove the car and found great wildlife. The full trip was amazing. The trip to Eyasi and Natron were to do thing outside of the parks so that there were no park fees. But in the end these two places were by far the best. Hunting with the Hadza was an experience.

After the Safari, I headed to Zanzibar for my last week. Originally I was going to stay in a hostel, but Aurelie found me a good deal at Coral Rock Resort. A nice place with plenty to do.

I don't think my trip would have been the same without the helpful and professional services of eTrip Africa. The simple fact that they could take a credit card, set them apart from the few companies that I approached.

Thanks for the amazing adventure!

E-Trip Africa organised an amazing 2 week tour of Uganda for us. Starting in Kibale, the Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi, Mburo and finally Wildwaters Lodge on the Nile.

The whole trip was brilliant, and felt like a bespoke tour tailored to exactly what we wanted. Ben answered our many e mails and enquiries quickly and organised everything just how we wanted it.

ETrip Africa did it again, this time Ben handed my itinerary over to Aurelie (with whom I summitted Kili in 2013) and she did a superb job of organizing a three country itinerary for me this past February 2015. This itinerary took me on a guided road trip with my Ugandan guide Alex Guma through Rwandan hills, trekking chimps, kayaking a lovely lake, trekking goril... read more

The bottom line: this is a glowing review of a longer than average trip (38 days) that was thoughtfully planned, meticulously arranged, and expertly executed. I have attempted to write the review I wanted to read when I was researching this. That is, one that contains information allowing me to relate our situation and desires to the experience of the reviewer so ... read more

E-Trip Africa organized a mind blowing tour to Tanzania and Rwanda for us this summer. The manager Ben and our Guide Rajai were at the airport to greet us when we arrived and joined us for a welcome dinner in Arusha at Arusha Coffee Lodge, which is a beautiful lodge located in a Coffee Plantation just outside of Arusha. We spent two nights at Arusha Coffee Lodge in... read more

I am a Catholic priest and was giving a retreat to Mother Teresa's sisters in Kenya when I thought it would be nice to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. After contacting five recommended safari operators, I chose E-Trip Africa because the manager, Ben, called me back within a few hours and talked honestly with me. I've been greatly impressed by how he runs the company: he's a... read more

For my 50th birthday, I wanted to do something very special. I had never done anything big and I realized it was now or never. Well there is nothing bigger than Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa. Little did I imagine how life-changing a trip up Mount Kilimanjaro could be. After tons of research, I cautiously chose E-Trip Africa to run my trek. You are putting your life ... read more

Since I was a child, I had dreamt of traveling to Africa. But life passes and those dreams fade. On my 50th birthday, I realized that life was passing quickly and I was missing out, which was my reminder of my dreams of African elephants and the Snows of Kilimanjaro.

I happened to get the contact of E-Trip Africa by a chance encounter at business dinner. On... read more

Embarking on a journey as daunting as Mt Kilimanjaro took a degree of level headedness in almost every stage, from choosing a travel company to gear selection to final summit night courage, but the reward of Uhuru Peak and the view from the Roof of Africa makes every test more than worth it. The best piece of advice I could give anyone contemplating the climb is to... read more

Any time you start planning a trip to Africa, and in this case I chose Tanzania if for no other reason than I'd already taken myself to South Africa several times as well as Botswana, it's a bit of a crap shoot. I always buy a Lonely Planet guide, which in this case wasn't as useful as other countries, for the simple fact that the best places to go require guides. ... read more

I have wanted to see the wildlife of Africa since a child and eTrip Africa made my dream come true! I gave them list of species I wanted to see, and they designed a trip for me. We did several parks in Kenya, including Lake Bogoria and Masai Mara, and in Tanzania, including Serengeti and Ngorongoro, and then made a quick side trip to Uganda to see mountain goril... read more
