On arrival at Durban International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our driver and transferred to your hotel, Protea Hotel Edward (or similar) which is located on the Golden Mile – Durban’s distinctive beach front. In the afternoon, you'll be met by your guide and with fellow guests head out for a city tour of Durban. Here, you will discover the cultural and historical contrasts of the city. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon for a night in a standard room with breakfast included.
This morning you depart Durban after breakfast and travel up the Elephant Coast of KwaZulu Natal to St Lucia, located at the southern extremity of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park – a World Heritage Site few people take the time to explore. We find this a hugely rewarding region to explore and you will head out on an estuarine boat trip which provides you with the opportunity to view crocodiles, hippo and numerous bird species, including the elusive African Kingfisher Eagle, in their natural habitat. In the afternoon you will continue the journey to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve for an afternoon safari game drive in open sided 4x4 getting you close to the wildlife action. As the sun sets, you'll stop for a traditional sundowners before heading back to your accommodation. Enjoy two nights at Ghost Mountain Inn (or similar) in a standard room with dinner and breakfast included.
This morning is yours to enjoy. Many of our guests like to embark on another safari game drive (additional cost which you pay locally) whilst others prefer to explore the local area with a walk or shopping expedition. Liaise with your guide who can assist in making it a morning to remember. After lunch, you'll embark on a scenic drive up the Ubombo Mountains, offering views over Lake Jozini. The drive will be combined with a visit to a local and authentic Zulu homestead for a glimpse into Zulu life in today’s world. In the late afternoon, return to the lodge where another hearty dinner awaits you.
After breakfast, meet your guide and fellow travellers for your journey to the Royal Kingdom of Swaziland. This tiny mountainous kingdom is filled with bygone African traditions and culture and offers beautiful scenery and attractions such as game reserves and art & craft outlets to name a few. Travel via Big Bend and visit the Swazi Candle Factory where each candle is made and finished by hand using the age-old technique "millefiore". No two are the same and the range boasts an astonishing array of patterns, shapes and designs. After spending some time at the Mbabane craft markets arrive at Royal Swazi Sun (or similar) located in the beautiful Ezulwini Valley. You've got just one night here with dinner and breakfast included.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast and continue your tour through Swaziland. Enroute you will stop at the Ngwenya Glass Works to see master craftsmen create beautiful sculptures and artwork from molten glass. At the Jeppe’s Reef border, enjoy a showcase of the traditional Swazi culture followed by lunch at the Matsamo Cultural Village. Continue the journey to your hotel for late afternoon arrival. Spend 2 nights a Perry's Bridge Hollow (or similar) in a standard room with breakfast and dinner included.
It's an early rise as you head out in open sided 4x4 vehicles to safari in the Kruger. This will be an amazing wildlife finale to your safari as the Kruger is world renowned for its wildlife experience. Return to your lodge in the afternoon for some time out or you may wish to head back into the Kruger for an afternoon/sunset safari which is possible and arranged with your guide locally. An additional fee will apply. We often recommend you see how you are feeling on the day as early starts on safari are exhausting!
Rise and shine on your final tour morning to a group breakfast and an exciting and breathtakingly beautiful drive along the magnificent Panorama Route. Our personal favourite and most spectacular stretch of the Panorama Route is the Blyde River Canyon. From many well-positioned vantage points you will has a view of the 33 kilometre long gorge, which starts at Bourke's Luck Potholes and ends at the Three Rondavels, two landmarks you cannot miss. Time and weather permitting, you will also stop at God’s Window for another inspiring view of this impressive landscape. The tour ends at approximately 18h00 when you are dropped off at Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport or your accommodation if you wish to stay on for a few nights.
