Day 2: Tana to Perinet/Andasibe

Your English speaking guide will pick you up at the hotel and take you for the drive East to Perinet, about 4 hours drive from the Capital Tana. The journey to Perinet offers first time visitors to Madagascar a gentle introduction to rural life, rice fields, red brick houses and roadside stalls selling seasonal fruits line the route. Check into Vakona Forest Lodge. This is Andasibe‘s best tourist standard hotel, located just over 7 km from the park entrance. Three nights at Vakona Forest Lodge standard room (Full board)

Day 3: Perinet Reserve

After breakfast, enjoy a visit of the Analamazaotra reserve with your local guide. The 810ha reserve protects the largest of all lemurs, the Indri Indri, with a barely visible tail, black and white markings and a surprised teddy bear face, it is one of the most attractive lemurs, with its loud and eerily haunting calls. There are another 11 species of lemurs that live in this area and your guide will try to find some during the visit, you may find a troop of Grey Bamboo Lemurs, Common Brown Lemur, and Diademed Sifaka. It is a great place for bird watching and special ones to look out for are the Velvet Asity, Blue Coua and Nuthatch Vanga. It is also home to reptiles, invertebrates, and many orchids. Lunch at the hotel.

Visit of the lemur’s island in the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to see lemur close to you.

A night walk will be organised in late evening with a local guide. This should reveal some nocturnal species in Perinet.

Day 4: Mantadia National Park

This national park varies more  in altitude (between 800 m and 1260 m), than the more popular reserve and consequently harbours different species, this section of Mantadia has some good trails with gorgeous views across the forest and super bird watching possibilities, including specials such as the Scaly Ground Roller, Pitta-Like Ground Roller and Red Breasted Coua. To do justice to Mantadia you need to spend a whole day in the park. This is a naturalist’s goldmine with many seldom seen species of mammals, reptiles and birds. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park then move to the waterfall of Rianasoa, before returning to the Lodge in the afternoon. Evening at your leisure.

Day 5: Perinet- Tana

After lunch, drive back to Tana and continue to your hotel in town. Overnight at Pavillon de l’Emyrne (Bed & Breakfast).

The forests are filled with the ancestral tombs of the local Antandroy Tribe, as well as a bewildering array of flora and fauna, unique to the spiny forest.

After a shower and freshen up, enjoy an evening aperitif on the river terrace, before a sumptuous 3-course dinner. Three nights at Mandrare River Camp (All inclusive).

After breakfast, drive to the Sacred Gallery forests to the south of the camp, these forests are deciduous mainly tamarind, and full of wildlife, especially lemurs with large groups of Ring tailed Lemurs. In the evening the local village may come to perform traditional dances, accompanied by singing and music.
