After a hearty breakfast you are picked up in the early morning and transferred to the entrance gate of the park. The park rangers brief you and you are given a short introduction about the logistics of the trekking and which rules will need to observed in order not to unnecessarily disturb the mountain gorillas. At the moment there are seven mountain gorilla groups that can be visited in the Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda. The number of participants visiting the different groups is limited to 8 people per day. The visiting hours for the different groups are restricted to one hour, starting from the time you have reached the group. The departure points are determined according to which mountain gorilla group is allocated to your group. Accompanied by park rangers you begin your trekking and search for the gorillas. Other rangers that left an hour before you transfer the exact location of the gorilla group you are in search for. Once you have reached the gorillas, you spend one hour at close range of the animals. You observe how these unique animals wander across the forest in a family clan with up to 20 members.
The group is led by the silverback who can easily reach 2 meters in height and 200kg in weight. Observe the leader of the group how he interacts with his females, children and babies, which all always gather around their chief. In close proximity you can experience the way of behaviour and communication among each other. You will notice a resemblance to the human behaviour.
