Day One

Arriving at the airport you will be warmly welcomed by a Churchill Safaris representative, and transferred to your hotel in Kigali. A tour of the city can be arranged for interested parties.

Days Two, & Three

Today you depart for Nyungwe for two days, first visiting the Genocide Museum and the Caplaki Crafts Center in Kigali, before departing after lunch. Stopping at the genocide memorial Nyanza and the Butare National museum you will arrive to Nyungwe Forest in the evening.

The next day you will go for chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe Forest. This ancient forest is one of the largest blocks of Montane forest in East Africa, and holds incredible botanical diversity with over 200 types of trees and a myriad of flowering plants that include the giant lobelia as well as a number of stunning orchids. The forest is home to 13 species of primates including chimpanzees, as well as L'Hoest and Colobus monkeys. For the birders among you Nyunwe hosts a recorded 300 bird species, with several Albertine Rift Endemics, the most notable being the great blue turaco.
Spend the day in this incredible Forest returning in the evening to your lodge.

Day Four

Today you set off for gorilla trekking in Parc des Volcans. Ascending the slopes of the Virungas, you will be immersed in the dense, lush rainforest. The vibrant birdcalls and squabbles of the golden monkeys will eventually bring you to the gorillas in their natural habitat, a truly unforgettable experience.

Returning in the afternoon you can go for the optional Ibyiwatu Cultural group performance, where you will be entertained, and learn more about Rwandan culture, music, dance, and drama or take a visit to the twin lakes before returning to the lodge in the evening.

Day Five

There are so many options to choose from today as you get to decide between a second gorilla trek in the park, or tracking the endangered golden monkeys. You can also choose to visit the grave and final resting place of Diane Fossey and the gorilla cemetery. Later drive back to Kigali to transfer to your hotel or to the airport for your return flight.
