Lemosho route is less utilized, unspoiled, remote and beautiful Route, the second part of the route is similar to the Machame and Shira route. On the first day you will be accompanied by an armed ranger, because you can encounter with buffalo, elephants and other big animals along so the park ranger is there for security reason only. For this route, you don’t need any Mountain Climbing skills, but you must be fit. Porters will assist to carry all your personal items, equipment and supplies and a cook to prepare your meals.

A vehicle is used to bring hikers to the gate, where the trail begins in the Montane rain forest. Lemosho trekkers have a longer distance to shield in the tropical rain forest Eco-system than other routes and as a result hikers do not exit the rain forest until the end of day two. This plan means that the Lemosho Route is a longer route, usually taking seven to eight days to complete.

Day 1: Big Tree Camp

Pick up at the lodge and transfer to Lemosho gate to start your trek. Leave in the morning from Moshi to Londorossi village where the gate is located. The start of trail 2100m trek winds up through the lush forest zone on to the lower slopes of the northern side, going up to Shira plateau and camp at Mti Mkubwa 2650m.

Day 2: Shira 1 Camp

After a good breakfast depart with picnic-lunch from Big Tree Camp (2800m) to Shira 1 Camp (3480m) walking through the fine open moorlands cross several small streams before you have a gentle walk across the plateau which leads to Shira 2-camp, from the camp you can see the Western Breach with its stunning glaciers.

Walking Time: Big Tree – Shira 1 Camp: Approx. 8 – 9 hours

Altitude Gain: 1050m.

Day 3: Barranco Camp

After breakfast depart with picnic lunch from Shira 1 Camp to Barranco Camp (3900m), the camp lies in a sheltered area below the remarkable cliffs of the Breach wall. The Breach wall, the dome of Uhuru and the edge of the Heim Glacier dominate the head of the valley,

Altitude Gain: 700m Up and Down 600m.

Day 4: Barafu Camp

Acclimatization Day. The trek continues from Barranco Camp (3950m) to Karanga valley Camp (3930m). You start the day with a steep climb of the Barranco Wall. An exhausting experience, but a fantastic reward when we are on top of Barranco Wall, a magnificent view of Uhuru Peak, you will reach Karanga Camp for hot lunch

Walking Time: Barranco – Karanga Valley Camp: Approx. 2 - 4hours
Distance Cover: 6kms
Altitude Gain: 250m Up and Down 250m.

Day 5: Barafu Camp

In the morning trek to Barafu. Huge glaciers and cliffs can be seen which mark this part of the mountain. Here is the last water point. where potter bring water all way from Karanga Valley Camp

Walking Time: Karanga Valley Camp – Barafu Camp: Approx. 2 – 4 hours

Altitude Gain: 650m.

Day 6: Uhuru Peak

At midnight the trek begins up to the final steep, scree section to reach Stella Point. Walk steadily up the ridge and about the crater to reach Uhuru peak at 5895m. From the summit the trek descends to overnight at Millennium. 3100m 

Walking Time: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Millennium Camp: Approx. 12 - 14 hours
Distance Cover: 19kms
Altitude Gain: 1295m up and 2105 down.

Day 7: Mweka Gate

Covering the last section of the mountain, the trek continues down through the forests to the Mweka gate (1800m) where your vehicle will be waiting to transport you back to Moshi/Hotel.

Walking Time: Millennium Camp – Mweka Gate: Approx. 5 - 6 hours
Distance Cover: 13kms
Altitude Gain: 1650m down.
