This is probably the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. All your equipment and supplies are portered and a cook prepares all your meals. Where accommodation on the Marangu route is in huts, the Machame route offers strictly tents only.

This makes Machame (also referred to as the "Whiskey route") better suited to the slightly more adventurous hiker, rewarding him with a scenic splendor such as not seen on the Marangu route. There is an added benefit to this, as you are afforded the most valuable commodity on the mountain - acclimatisation. The Machame route takes you high to Lava Tower (4630m) on the day 3 and brings you down by nearly 700m for an overnight at Barranco camp (3950m). This is the secret to successful acclimatisation.

Day 0

Pick up from your accommodation and transferred to Stella Maris Hotel Bramwel Safaris guide will performing an equipment check, to ensure a safe and comfortable climb, before briefing then overnight stay – local.

Day 1 - Transfer to Hotel

Good morning. After breakfast, you will be transferred to Machame Gate for registration, briefing session, meeting your entire crew and commence spectacular trekking. Machame route  offers a scenic route where no day is the other like. You will start this expedition wondering how it will be. You will finish it knowing how it was - connected to Kilimanjaro, nature and yourself – adventurous.

Day 2 - Machame Camp

Leave Machame Camp towards Shira camp and let your guide explain the unique environment of Kilimanjaro and its different climate zones. Few things are as humbling as being passed by porters on a mountain hike so don’t forget to cheer on your porters who will set your tent, fetch water and prepare the equipment at the next campsite – impressed.

Day 3 – Barranco via Lava Tower

This is one of the best days for acclimatizing as you will trek high (Lava Tower) and sleep low. One of the highlights is the senecioplant just before you reach Barranco camp. No one will frown should you decide to hug one of these spectacular plants. Will you feel small? Yes. Will you feel connected? Definitely – amazed.

Day 4 – Karanga Camp (B,L,D)

Leaving Barranco camp means you need to overcome what is referred to as the ‘breakfast wall’. If you ever doubted why your BRAMWEL SAFARIS crew should be remunerated with fair salaries, your doubts will disappear after this morning session. At points you will go in to ‘four wheel drive’ using both hands and legs to climb. And if your lips happen to kiss a certain rock, your guide will be ready with your camera – compassionate.

Day 5  Barafu Camp (B, L, D)

Karanga camp offered you a great interval after Barranco and it is time to approach the summit camp, Barafu. Once there, you can enjoy the landscape, be awed by the beauty and massiveness of the peak, rest and eat while preparing yourself mentally for the pending task – prepared

Summit night – Uhuru Peak (B, L, D)

All the research, planning, booking, imagining, excitement and training will climax in your attempt for the summit. Your guides are there to motivate and assist. The first rays of light will give you that extra push you need at Stella Point and the reward that waits at Uhuru Peak will not be disappointing, perhaps rather life changing – high.

Day 6  – Mweka Camp (B , L, D)

It is as if all the tiredness just disappeared once you reached the peak. Feel proud, think of loved ones, print memories of a lifetime in your head and on your memory card. Descent route leads back to Barafu camp, where you have a rest, before continuing all the way to Mweka Camp. Your lungs will welcome every breath of air rich in oxygen and you will start to realize just what kind of achievement you went through the past 12 hours – accomplished.

Day 7 – Mweka Gate (B)

Your Kilimanjaro experience ends at Mweka gate. Thank the people who made it all possible and say ‘fare well’ to newly found companions.  Sign out of the national park and get your certificates before transfer to Moshi for hot lunch and transfer to Arusha in for overnight stay at Stella Maris Hotel for dinner and overnight stay pending your Safari next day. It will feel strange to be back in town after all the pure beauties of nature but try to un-wind and look back at your achievements – proud.
