It is possible! The Camps Rekero in the Masai-Mara and Naboisho in the Mara Conservancy are wheelchair friendly. The lodges are well furnished with a special safari atmosphere. There is enough space to move in the room and bathroom with the wheelchair. In the two camps the same special team member assisted me.
He was present when necessary. A great feeling of independence.
The managers, the team and the high educated game drivers gave off their warmth and effort to save wildlife. The taught about the complexity of the ecosystem in these two different Kenya areas. The small amount of lodges made it possible to change daily experiences with other tourists during e.g. the excellent dinners, lunches or drinks around the fire.
I saw in the Masai Mara a bridging of about five thousands wildebeests and zebras. This was the ultimate safari: the behaviour before, the first dive of a wildebeest and all the others. On the safaris we searched for and observed the behavior of lions, jackals, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards warthogs, buffalo, impalas, hippos, giraffes, crocodiles, elephants,bee-eaters, eagles, kingfishers, ostrich, vultures and baboons. I saw them all.
During our stay in Naboisho, we visited a primary school and a Maasai-village. Asilia Africa made it possible for me in the wheelchair to join a safari tour and I participated with no problem in the normal safari program.
I recommend to contact Asilia Africa when you want to go on a wheelchair friendly unforgettable safari in Kenya.
