DAY 1 - Depart for the Kruger National Park in our 12 seat luxury overland game viewing vehicle. If you have chosen to do the Panorama Route which includes Pilgrims Rest, God’s Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes and the Three Rondawels (additional cost of R 349 per person) then we will do this route and enter the Park at Orpen Gate and spent the first night in Talamati Private Bush Camp situated on the banks of the Nwatwitsonso River. This route takes us down the Abel Erasmus pass which is just spectacular. We will stop for an alfresco lunch along the route. Time permitting we may be able to squeeze in a short game drive on day one before having a scrumptious dinner around a fire.
DAY 2 - We pack up and head for our next overnight rest camp, this is our first full game drive and we try to get to our next camp around 11h00, stopping at one of the beautiful picnic sites in the park where we can alight from our vehicle to have a full brunch with all the trimmings. It does get very hot in the park at times and we try to spend the hottest part of the day in camp, either visiting the various attractions such as the Elephant Hall Museum a shrine to the great tuckers who have lived in the park, or the Stevenson Hamilton Museum in Skukuza. Some of the rest camps we overnight in have swimming pools where we can cool off. If you are keen birders the camps themselves offer great birding. Some of the rest camps have shops where you can purchase anything from snacks to clothing and souvenirs. We will do an afternoon game drive in the area of our rest camp getting back to camp shortly before the gates close, the early mornings and late afternoons are the best game viewing times. We will have an alfresco dinner in camp.
DAY 3/4 - If we are staying another night in the same rest camp then we do not have to pack up and this gives us the opportunity to get out of camp very early…shortly after the rest camp gates open. The Satara area of the park is always a game hotspot and the S100 road is especially well known for the game that is spotted on this road. The cats…Lion, Leopard and Cheetah are often spotted in this area. We have regularly seen Rhino, Elephant and Hyena and if we get really lucky a pack of Wild Dog. It is also a birders paradise with many Raptors such as the Bateleur, Fish Eagle, Marshall Eagles and some of the larger Owls are often seen. We have coffee and rusks in the morning and find a suitable picnic site on our game drive route where we have a full brunch. We do morning and afternoon game drives and have a full dinner in camp. You may want to book a Sunset or Night drive on an open park vehicle or possibly and early morning bush walk with armed rangers (additional cost, book and pay SANParks directly).
DAY 5/6 - today we move to another area of the park…generally we only stay in the same rest camp for a maximum of two days since you can quite easily cover the various roads in this period so to keep it fresh and introduce you to the different Biomes in the park. With our intimate knowledge of the park and in which months we can expect the best game viewing we make our way to our next overnight stop. We will most likely again find a picnic site in the park and have brunch there. Dinner will be alfresco style in camp around the camp fire, discussing the events of the day and enjoying a few drinks. We will again overnight here to allow us a second very early entry into the park on day 6.
DAY 7 - All great things come to an end and unfortunately we have to pack up camp and head back to Johannesburg but not before we have done an early morning game drive en-route to the park gate we will be exiting from. Soon after exiting the park we will find a place where we can stop for breakfast…either somewhere in Phalaborwa or the Safari Club in Hoedspruit which serves delicious food. This breakfast is included in the Safari cost. We head through the beautiful Lowveld and up the Escarpment either through Lydenberg and Dullstroom or via Polokwane. We will drop you off either at OR Tambo International Airport, the Gautrain rapid rail station or at the accommodation that we have arranged for you in Kyalami.
