Arrival at Kilimanjaro
After completing customs formalities and baggage retrieval , which always requires much patience ... meet your guide ... and after the presentations it's better just go.. so you won't feel like you're missing out ... You'll probably start to sweat and perhaps think ... “Why have I come here today?” ....
We’ll set up camp in a field above Lake Manyara and I assure you will have a breathtaking view. Standing close the edge of the Mto Wa Mbu escarpment, it offers one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Great Rift Valley and its soda lake. It is difficult to imagine a more spectacular scenery . The park is famous among ornithological biologists for birds of prey and for the tree climbing lions . Lions are not supposed to climb trees, it’s somewhat uncommon, in this case they do it to enjoy a cool breeze. ...
Lake Manyara National Park
The morning is dedicated to guests scheduled activities : we can visit the fishing village of Mto -wa - Mbu which in Swahili means " village of mosquitoes" , take a ride around Lake Manyara to " maji moto" ( pools from which flows hot water) maybe observing lions resting or lazing on the trees, as this is the only place in the whole Africa where this happen. You decide! As I understand it….akuna matata !
Otherwise continue you journey to Ngorongoro ...
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
The track is short but very bad , in up to two hours we’ll climb up to a height of 2300 m and when you lean and came to the lip of the crater you will be amazed ... I think there are few people today who do not know it or haven’t read about it on magazines, or whatch documentaries on TV. This incredible volcanic crater 20 km in diameter is enclosed by walls 600 m. high.
The Ngorongoro crater, now part of an extinct volcano, has often being compared to Noah’s ark and the Garde of Eden. It is one of the natural wonders of the world and since 1978 has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Often described as the eighth wonder of the world , the crater is so spectacular as to involve all the senses, natural sanctuary for over 25,000 animals, including black rhino , but also the area inhabited by the Masai tribe .
Going inside you will see lions, elephants , rhinos , buffalo , hyena and many ungulates such as wildebeest, Thomson's gazelles , zebras, as well as thousands of pink flamingos that live in the lake Magadi , the salt lake on the crater floor .
To descend it there is only one road to the east, the ascent is extremely steep and is located on the west side . The Masai can descend into the crater to graze and to water their animals. Arrived at the bottom of the crater we got a lot of reason to choose which wild animal to admire and photograph . Last year, a lion, to get a better pictures , climbed on the hood of my truck and very naturally lay under the sun for more than half an hour. You would say, “no fear , you were inside the SUV " ...” Yes, but my SUV was open cabin !”
Move along the crater is relatively easy and we will have four or five hours to roam around. At about 14:00 , however, the heat will be unbearable, then we will climb . Without the camp, located not far from the Ngorongoro Serena ..... I do not say that you can admire the scenery ... It's all a surprise ... Dinner , talk in front of the fireplace and then to bed . Wake up at 6:00 Serengeti direction Along the road , I warn you , it is not beautiful , certainly meet thousands of herbivores and carnivores on stalking . We will continue the march towards Seronera , in the middle of the Serengeti.
Serengeti National Park
Derived from the Maasai word " siringet ", which means '' endless plains " , the Serengeti is one of the last unspoiled paradises of the world that provides shelter to unique wildlife.
We'll have to roam far and wide in search of large predators , we will have about 14,763 square kilometers of the park and a few hundred Kopje ( small mounds of rock) .
A recent census were counted : 1,500,000 wildebeest , gazelles 1,000,000 , 200,000 zebras, impalas 75,000 , 74,000 buffalo, 9,000 giraffes, 5,000 elephants, hyenas 4000 , 2500 lions, cheetahs and 70 400 rhinos in the afternoon ... maybe we can also go to the Olduvai Gorge, to view the ruins where was found the little "Lucy" and where it has been sayed human era has begun !
Everybody gets dinner and go to bed early , even if sleep won’t come easy tonight ... There are lions all around !
Wake up ... We set up alarm the 5:30 .
A walk in the park ... Until, with the sun beating down and the hot temperature, we will dedicate ourselves to our little maintenance : repair punctures of tires, get gas , visit Seronera market .... Very funny !
Dinner and of to bed! ... Wake up at 6.00 !
Ah ! Ah ! Ah ! Sleepless night .... Here we go again ... The lions !
Grumeti Controlled Area ( Western Corridor )
We leave early to the Grumeti Controlled Area (more commonly called the Western Corridor ) , the most remote area of the Serengeti NP.
This remote area of the park is also the most beautiful and extraordinary . It is here that begins the great feast of the giants crocodiles of Grumeti River , crossing the river by hundreds of thousands of animals that migrate to Kenya , paying the toll of crossing with their lives . The survivors are already very close to the Kenyan border , but always with a good dose of luck , we could see them cross the Masai Mara . And we'll be certainly there waiting for them .
Along the way we’ll cross truly amazing landscapes and only in the last kilometers will sight the Grumeti River. After setting up the camp we will head to Camp Kirawira ... They are are waiting for us with a priceless dinner !
The rich vegetation around the Kirawira is very attractive for a wide variety of animals including lions , buffalo, cheetah, giraffe , baboon , gazelle and wildebeest , as well as numerous species of birds. The main activities are hiking in the forest and ambushes along the Grumeti River , to enjoy the awesome spectacle of crocodiles, absolute masters of the water ...
Sleeping is really an impossible task , hyenas , lions , hippos will watch over us ... Anyway, do not worry: you'll be safe in the tent ...
Ah ! Ah ! Wake up at 6:00 ...
All morning strolling around and in the afternoon comes the funny part of the day ... We'll start the reverse path back to Kilimanjaro, but do not worry , we still have many things to see and to savor unexpected ... All with more calm and relaxed . The tour includes a stop at Manyara where you will sleep avoiding the nightmare of lions ...
