Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport you will be collected by a representative from Africa Tried and Tested and transferred to the MOUNT MERU GAME LODGE AND SANCTUARY – a rustic outdoor lodge roughly halfway between the airport and Arusha. As the name suggests, there is a wildlife sanctuary on the same property as the lodge, and your first sightings of zebra, eland and other wildlife will be from the lodge restaurant. Overnight based on Bed&Breakfast accommodation.
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
After breakfast the safari begins. Your 4x4 game drive vehicle will collect you and the drive to Tarangire National Park is around 2 hours, passing through a vibrant Arusha on the way. Picnic lunches will be collected on the way and you can enjoy a picnic lunch while on your game drive in Tarangire National Park.
Tarangire National Park lies about 120 kilometers south of Arusha and is one Africa´s little known gems. Game viewing in Tarangire is largely affected by the presence of water, and during the dry season many animals congregate at the Tarangire River. The park is also known for its great birdlife diversity, in which it is surpassed only by Lake Manyara. Dinner and overnight at TARANGIRE SOPA LODGE.
Day 3: Ngorongoro
Enjoy another game drive in Tarangire National Park before heading to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater. Passing through the towns of Mto wa Mbu and Karatu on the way, it is a spectacular drive as you head up the escarpment to the gate at Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The drive around the rim of the Crater is breath taking with heart stopping views of this giant caldera. Arrive at NGORONGORO SOPA LODGE in time for lunch with a spectacular view. Spend the afternoon enjoying the surroundings of this award-winning lodge.
Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater
Today is one of the most fabulous days of your life. Leaving the lodge early in the morning, you descend into the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater where game viewing is quite simply unbelievable. Every animal of the big 5 is here, and the amount of game in this small area makes it a day filled with amazing sightings. Lunch at one of the rest spots in the Crater, and then continue the search for species you have not yet seen – e.g. the black rhino. Ngorongoro Crater is one of the few places in Tanzania where rhino can be seen. Back up to the rim of the Crater for sundowners at the lodge, or a late afternoon swim with the best view in the world. Dinner and accommodation is at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge.
Day 5: Serengeti National Park
After breakfast at the lodge, depart for the endless plains of the Serengeti. This drive takes you all the way around the rim of the Crater in the opposite direction, and then back down the escarpment on the other side of the Crater. The scenery changes significantly as the plains become visible, and enter through the gate to the Serengeti, where lunch can be enjoyed on the way. The drive continues to SERENGETI SOPA LODGE where a swimming pool with a view will help rinse off the dust and refresh you. Evening meal and accommodation is at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
Day 6: Serengeti National Park
This is the day you can spend driving around the famous Serengeti National Park the entire day, have a short game drive and a relaxing afternoon at the pool, enjoy a nap, or locate the herds which make up the annual migration of millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. Serengeti Sopa Lodge is located almost in the middle of the park, so if the migration is around, it is generally accessible from this lodge. It is a natural phenomenon though, and we cannot guarantee that they will be in an area close enough to reach, or accessible by vehicle, as it all depends on rainfall between Kenya and Tanzania. Evening meal and accommodation is at Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
Day 7: Kilimanjaro Airport
Today you will be transferred back to Kilimanjaro Airport, a full day of contrasts. From the endless plains of the Serengeti you will descend from the Manyara escarpment to the African savannah inhabited by the Masai, onto vibrant Arusha where you will arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport in time for your evening flight.
